So I have recently made a trip into the nether, and returned with a large amount of netherrack that I'd like to incorporate into some building projects in the overworld, but I'm not quite sure how to do that without making things look funny. Anybody have some screenshots of ways they have used netherrack in the overworld? I'd like to see some creative ideas :smile.gif:
I made a statue out of it and then set it on fire, so I have a giant reclining nude on fire floating over the bay. It looks - okay. Not as wonderful as I was hoping. Since then I just use it for a wall of fire around the yard, boring, but practical.
A wall of fire sounds like a pretty cool idea. I don't know if I will be able to use that very well in my main world since I already have a cobble wall, but I might try it. I guess my main problem with the netherrack is that it just isn't very eye-pleasing. Oh well, it is from a hell-like place so I suppose shouldn't be haha. Thanks for the suggestions so far!
Build a cobblestone wall around a nether portal in the middle of the ocean, then put netherrack all the way around it at the same level as the water, but a small area to where you can get inside. The fire looks awesome against the water at night. That, or build a large beacon\torch that you can see to get back to your base(s).

Talent didn't go anywhere, it just gets lost in all the noise. You have to find it.

I like the sound of this idea a lot. I might have to try it just to see what it will look like! The mental image sounds impressive. Perhaps a floating castle in the middle of an ocean surrounded by this wall...
Build a model of the immediate area around your portal (Netherside) in the overworld, implying that the Nether is leaking in. It would be even cooler if some Ghasts spawned around it.

If you're new here, you aren't allowed to have an opinion. Or get on mah level. 'K? 'K.
in an old world of mine I made a path of lava, covered by glass leading from my spawn to my house, so i could see and follow it if i respawned at night and couldn't find my way.....you could make lighted pathways with burning neather rock under the glass.

This was actually an idea I was thinking of doing. In the room where my portal is I was thinking of making a sort of fade effect of netherrack immediately surrounding the portal so it looked like it was as you said "leaking in". I don't know about the ghasts though haha. I've never seen one in the overworld yet, and it sounds terrifying...and yet... it'd be a cool experience. I'll have to build a nether portal at the peak of a mountain and watch for a while to see if any "come through"

A large tower for seeing yourbase/house from a distance.
Torch replacement.
I'm surprised to hear of someone seeing that movie here on the minecraft forums.

Just make sure you put something like a torch on each Netherrack block, or you'll have
EVERYWHERE.
