Hello, this is my first topic here, so I decided to post an idea I've had for a little while, "Capturing Animals".
How it works
Using a crafting table, you will be able to make a trap, which looks something like a bear trap. It is made as such :

These traps can also be made with wood, iron and so forth, the better the material, the more times you can use a single trap. Anyway, you leave the trap on the floor, and if an animal steps on it, they become caught in it. You can then take said animal and put it in your inventory. When an animal is in your inventory, a symbol is shown to indicate whether it is male or female.
Once you get an animal, you can take it to a pen, which can also be made in the crafting table. I'd say it should be made like this :

Using this will give you roughly 6 blocks of fence, which you can put down to make a pen. Once you have made your pen, you simply right click on the inside of it to put your animal down.
What it does
Once you have both a male and female animal inside the pen, they will eventually "do their thing". They will then have babies after a fixed amount of time (I'm thinking 3-5 in-game days) and these babies will become older after another fixed amount of time. Once these babies are adults, you can take the thing they have to offer. (e.g Wool, Meat, ect.)
Draw backs of using this
This, however does have draw backs. You will have to feed your animals at least once every 2 days, if you don't they'll die. Also, being away from their natural environment makes the animals prone to decease. Decease can spread and kill all of your animals. One final draw back of doing this is the general fact that you are taking the animals out of their habitat. Less animals now means that the animals will decrease in number, meaning if you don't take good care of your animals, you may never see another one again.
Though there are many draw backs for doing this, the advantages can be worth overlooking them. Having a small farm with many different animals means you have a reliable, fast way to get resources like leather and meat. If you raise alot of animals and release them back into the wild, you will see a drastic change in the amount of animals roaming the land.
So that's my idea for being able to capture and raise animals. Many things are definitely bad or not entirely worked out about this idea, but I hope to improve on it with the feedback from you guys. So anyway, thanks for reading the "wall of text" and please leave feedback. :biggrin.gif:
Oh, I was unaware of this topic. After reading it, I really like your ideas for the corral and how it can only hold a certain amount of animals. I was thinking beforehand, less animals = better living conditions, therefore better results. On the other hand, more animals = more produce, meaning more of the produce with a lesser quality. And to add to your idea on horses, how about if you feed them more often they drop manure, which you can use to grow crops faster/of better quality.

No sweat, people can have same ideas. Also nice to hear that you like my topic.

That is a nice idea -> adding to my topic (and giving credit of course)

This is a great idea! Another simpler idea would be to allow you to close animals inside a fenced in area. If they make a gate this would be a lot easier. Then if the animals couldn't escape you could have your own "farm". The original idea is way cooler, but this would be a simpler alternative.
