Hats would have to stay on the same level as helmets. I think they should only be straw hats and sombrero stuff. Forget these "magic" wizzard hats. I don't wanna hear the "M" word in my Minecraft. No costumes, they always make games too childishly stupid
Minecraft has a "childish" touch to it (that's not a bad thing). Just accept your playing a game that looks like it's designed for kids.

No no no no no... You don't understand.
They would be fully editable like the rest of your skin, and it could be anything you want.

I agree. While we're at it, let's upgrade the character model just a tad so that we can finally make some decent looking outfits. At the moment, it's a flat pain in the ass just because of how restrained the model itself is.

This may be a fad, but I love dragons, so why the heck not?
No. Just no, the moment TF2 added hats to the game the actual gameplay went to hell. Sorry but I seriously think that the moment hat dlc and games collide developers divide by zero or something and ruin it.
I am particularly for top hats. Not "top hats and wizard hats and sombreros and and and..." just top hats (following Minecraft's style of one-item-per-purpose). What would the purpose of top hats be? Vanity. The top hat would not be craftable, but be found only in dungeons (or by a similarly rare method). It would give no advantage, and extend a full block above the head, making the player model while wearing it 2.4 blocks high and unable to walk under a normal-sized ceiling. Attempting to walk under a regular ceiling with two blocks of clearance, or jumping while under three blocks of clearance, would cause it to immediately fall off. Also swimming, or taking any type of damage apart from fall damage, would make it fall off.
The point of this is to have no actual effect on gameplay mechanics, but just have something which enterprising players can take or leave, and can a bit of silly ostentatiousness to those who desire it. What could be more ridiculous than wandering around smacking pigs into pork with a sword, wearing a top hat, knowing that walking under a tree will knock the thing off?
It might even be a mark of civility and trust in a multiplayer game, as a worn top hat would make a rather easy target for theft (knock it off, grab it, run). Sort of a superficial line between the gentry and the proles, if you will. And, you know, maybe once in a lifetime you'll see a zombie pigman wearing one.
Hope it's not minded that I punched up an oldish topic--I had the idea for top hats independently, but didn't think it worth creating an entirely new topics since this one already began addressing my salient points.
Would this require you to make 3x1 tunnels or get stuck? If so that's kind of trouble to say the least. However, I don't quite want to condemn this before hearing more as it would make top hats possible.
Maybe your hat should just fall off when you go in a 2x1 tunnel, and you'd have to pick it up and wait until there was an available space for your hat
