Quartz is, as a lot of people know, one of the coolest items added in the recent
snapshots. However, one problem is a lack of blocks built from it. Quartz is only used
for making a daylight detector, and 4 basic blocks. Quartz's potential as a decorative
block is not fulfilled yet, so I propose more uses for quartz!
First use, and most likely the easiest to be added,
Quartz walls. We already have cobblestone and moss stone walls,
but that is only 2 types of walls. I also would like quartz walls added.

Another use: Quartz tables.
These are basically like a pressure plate on a fence,
but unlike that design, this counts as one block, so
you can jump on top of it, and the top is 1 total block,
so they connect smoother then fence and pressure plates,
since pressure plates are smaller then a block.
I don't think these are going to be added, but lets see what
people say about the idea.

The third use, and most useful use are
holder blocks.
These are a decorative block,
just like a block surrounded with trap doors.
This block is sort of like one of those giant
pots you see in a mall, where they have
trees in them.
This takes up just one block,
instead of the 5 blocks the trapdoor design uses.
depending on what block is put in, you can plant
different things in it.
dirt:
you can plant things such as grass, saplings,
flowers, and ferns in it.
sand:
you can plant cactuses, reeds, and
dead shrubs in it.
soul sand:
you can plant nether warts in it.
(not much, but there really isn't any other nether plants)
To craft:
Empty holder
(credit to XShoopDaWhoopX for idea of using
an empty pot instead of 5 quartz)
Holder with dirt
Holder with sand

Another thing you should add with the pots would be the ability to change whats in them once already crafted, EX: Put a empty pot and a dirt block in a crafting table=pot with dirt

I don't think that will all be in the red stone update but that is more like a 1.6 possibility
I think the planter should have the bottom corners empty like a flower pot

This is a great idea. Also, there should be different types of tables, because if someone makes a building out of a dark block, a very light table would look a bit strange.

Support.
Upside-down Nether Brick Stairs done in a strategic way. (Same for a white table: just use the Quartz variant instead)
Another 2 ideas for the holders I had:
1) make it so that if an already filled holder can be used with another block to switch what it's filled in/or can be placed in a crafting table to empty it.
2) maybe make it so you can put anything in a holder by just trying to place a block in the top of the holder

Although about your poll, I have to vote in all sections, so perhaps for the last question you could put a possible answer as "none of the above"?
No its not...
Speaking about recipe, change it to Block of Quartz.
And Im pretty sure the Cauldron fits perfectly for the planter thing. No need for a new thing.
Sorry, my bad. Editing it now...
Put in a "none of these" option to poll
Great idea! hadn't thought of that
changed to block of quartz, and a cauldron might work for a planter, but it would
look sort of ugly.

No it wont. I sometimes use Cauldrons with water along with a Fence on top with Leaves above it. It looks really good.

Support! I'd love for quartz to be the new cobble for crafting blocks. I like the table, but it's not a big deal.

Perfect idea they should have it with other ores
