You mentioned it in a reply but i would imagine the smelting process should soften/weaken the obsidian. That way the player has to forfeit a little security for style. Anyway, I totally support.

if anything, it would align the silicone atoms in it and make it stronger.....
But obsidian is already blast proof, so it would be hard to make it stronger than normal obsidian in game terms. But i think that the purpose of this topic is to make obsidian go the way of sandstone and nether quarts and have decorative counterparts.

It's Minecraft, who said objects follow real life physical/chemical properties? Obsidian could get easier to break when smelted if it's purpose is to benefit the player.

Now that I think about it, you are right in the real world application sense. I was just imagining that since it appears smoother, it would be easier to break the surface. Plus it would be the trade off: style for protection. Plus Plus, that would mean it would be easier for the player to break after placing, making designing easier. But that's assuming real world physics and chemistry invalid, which has never stopped Minecraft before.
Ugh no please, PLEASE! New blocks shouldn't be added for decoration only, that makes Minecraft have way too much terrible and nearly neverused items. When a game gets too much junk it starts getting less populair. It doesn't matter if you add much, as long as everything you add is awesome.
I don't support.
I disagree. The chisel mod seems to be very popular, and all it does is add a bunch of decorative blocks. Besides, who doesn't want a dark obsidian brick castle?
I really love that smooth obsidian texture! Could you spare the .png? I would love to replace the default obsidian texture in my game with it! I was just going about to make my own, but this is far better than anything I can make!
Could be possible, but what would it be used for? Just light?

And that means... wait for it...

Just build the darn thing already!
Alexxx, if you don't like this, contact me, and I will be glad to remove it.
But not with just Obsidian. maybe I want to do it with Glow-Stone and stuff as well.
