I have an idea that I would really like to be added in Minecraft...Dual Wielding!
Well the name speaks for itself Dual wielding. When your mining You can easily use a Pick and a Torch at the same time and don't have to bother to switch inventory and search for your torches so this would be a really great addition to the game,As many of you love the mod called BattleGear but It just didn't Update And that is my suggestion Dual Wielding. The way this works in my mind is another inventory option for you to go to the dual wielding option then put in the tools that you want to use. -Quatzel
Well, dual wielding was announced by Mojang for the Adventure Update (1.4 Beta) and since then was not added.
My personnal thought on it would be that a left-hand slot could be added to the equipment slots, where you can put any item. This means you can carry any item on your left hand, however only some specific ones have an actual use in your left hand. Dual wielding would be used for exploring and fighting purposes, but not used for utility and collecting tasks.
For example, torches would light your surroundings. There was a mod for torches to emit light when in your hands long before the improvement of light management, including lag reduction, and so far it was not a lag generator.
Obviously, a sword in your left hand. Considering that you deal 1 HP damage with your bare hands, having two swords of the same type would deal twice the damage of one sword minus 1 HP damage, just calculate yourself to know the damage dealth with any kind of swords, having identical swords is not required. Will also work with axes, even if they are not primarily weapons. Also, parrying would be twice better.
Enchanted swords would both apply their enchantments each strike, with some exceptions that cannot stack, the most obvious one being Fire Aspect, and maybe Knockback should be an exception too else it would become ridiculously overpowered.
There have been a lot of suggestions for this, but I still talk about it : shields. Shields would be made of the same materials as swords and require the same amount of "precious" materials (well, I hope you understand what I am talking about), mostly for a matter of balance : having shields more costly but more efficient would cause everyone to stick to using shields and no more dual wield, the opposite would cause the opposite effect, of if one is costly but not really worth the cost, it would be set apart too. A shield would passively increase your armor a bit and have twice the parrying effect of a sword, considering that you parry with your sword and your shield at the same time. Also, dual wielding shields would be possible, although look silly, and you can carry a sword in your left hand and a shield in your right hand if you want to, you would deal the same damage and parry the same way. Shields would have similar enchantments to armors.
Dual wielding would also allow the introduction of a new bow mechanic : using the bow and the arrows for real. The bow would typically be equipped in the left hand and arrows taken in the right hand. Shooting arrows would work the same way as it works now, but requiring to have the bow and your arrows in your hands. This mechanic would allow to add new types of arrows with the possibility to switch between them easily. It is possible to fight with a sword and a bow, but the bow would not help at melee in any way.
Dual wielding tools to collect faster is quite a silly idea to me, this is why I oppose to any idea of some sort to dual wield pickaxes or anything else.
About the dual-wielding swords part-OVERPOWERED. 2 enchanted dia swords would make you IMMORTAL.
It seems kind of OP, because with duel diamond swords you can slaughter anything within 1-2 hits. Make some kind of penalty/drawback, and I will fully support this.
Offhand slot should only activate when you have a tool out. You can't have tools in the offhand slot. It would be restricted to blocks(so you can have torches) and shields(if they ever get added).
Then you would left click to use your tool and right click to place the block.
@ FlashRebel
I actually like the idea of only certain items being usable to dual wield.
Maybe THAT is the solution to the overpowering by using two swords. Maybe only items like shields, torches, arrows etc. can be used. Not actual tools.
I would LOVE to see shields implemented. Mostly for skeletons. It'd be nice if you could completely negate arrow attacks if you block in time.
I'd prefer "dual-wielding" only if the off-hand could only be used for non-weapons like shields, lanterns, or blocks you're using for construction. A quick-use button for your sword would be right handy if you get ambushed while building.
Ok I understand and like the idea, but how we use one or the other? o_o I use left click for punch and right click for use.... so...?
I was thinking left click will hit with both swords. If you have a block and a sword, right clicking will both block with the sword and place if possible. If you have, lets say: Shovel/Pick and you mine stone, it will use the pick, dirt and it will use the shovel.
But whats the point of having a two swords in your hand then? How would it be made weaker anyways? To get the sword you've already made it and possibly enchanted it. But when you have it in your left hand it doesn't do as much damage as it should? It seems unbalanced and would be pointless to even have two swords in each hand.

Unless it nerfs 70% of damage and disables enchantments, then won't be balanced.

"What?"
This is redundant.
"Oh that sucks"
Yup, it sure does.

No, this ISN'T a mod idea. If he wanted a mod, he would post it in mod requests, not in suggestions.
