i had an idea for a scythe. originally it was an idea for having multitast tools, in this case it would have been sword/plow. but i changed the idea around allitle
the scythe when used on crops will produce twice the amount of gain and seed you get from it, eventually leading to a mass crop production.
If there will be a scythe i dont think it should increase the amount of crop you gain, instead it should harvest crops in an arc infront of you, maybe 3 at a time and instantly return the crops / seeds to you so you wont have to jump around to catch them.
i supose, but the main thing i have with farming is the lack of seeds you find, with the scythe to produce twice the amount of seed and feed. you will beable to increase your crop production with easior efforts.
perhaps if there were to be charged abilities or increased abilities based on the material you craft the tool out of, then a wider area of land can be effected...
The problem with this is the same problem I have with the hoe, in that there's no reason to not just make wooden ones, considering you won't really use it a whole lot.
It always struck me as odd that you could harvest wheat by bashing it with a fistful of stone. I would be pleased for scythes to be included, and was considering looking into suggesting this myself.
If you do still want to bash your wheat with a log, it would make sense to me for that to work only about half the time, with scythes working all the time.
Harvesting wheat isn't a problem. You've probably seen the YouTube videos of water-based harvest and collection systems that allow you to collect wheat and seed rapidly from a central collection point. (I like to think of the grain in these cases as being rice, rather than wheat, what with the flooded fields and all.)
The problem for me is tilling and planting, which are laborious processes for which it would be nice to have some kind of automated mechanism. Tilling isn't so much a problem, as most plots stay tilled for a while after harvesting, so you only need to step in and till manually when the occasional plot reverts, which is an appropriate kind of regular maintenance task. But reseeding has to be done manually to each and every square for every crop.
I think a better (and more versatile and Minecrafty) solution would be a new kind of block, sort of like a dispenser, but instead of simply tossing out items to be picked up, would essentially right-click with them, line-of-sight with a range of four blocks just like you can reach manually. Loaded with seed and put in place with clever redstone wiring, it could be used to fully automate agriculture. But it could also automate a great many other processes as well, which is what makes it a more Minecrafty approach.

More art and ideas to come.

Harvest moon ideas... meh :/
If so...YES!

I want more plants in Minecraft.
Either way, I have thought of a scythe before too. I ended up going "Meh" seeing it'll be only used for the current 'crop'.

facepalm of the month- dra6o0n
Haha. That would be awesome. But I assume when you said "people" you ment mobs. Although you could always try it in in MP with PvP enabled. Hehe..
