UPDATE: The Aesthetic Mobs could be either particles or entities, depending on which one your talking about. This is what the poll says, so it is official. The OP will be updated.

Well, I still pay attention to it. I don't know about other people, though.
Well at least there's some reason for hope. Maby it's just that I hadn't been on the forums for awile...in any case, I won't give up up on this! Maby I'll produce some pics to go with it...Anyone know how to setup the "spoiler" thing in here?

MAJOR UPDATE!!!!
I'm planning on performing an overhaul on the Topic Post for this thread. Any pictures I could include in the overhaul would really be appreciated! I'd also like a banner, of someone would like to take the time to make one. That is all for now everybody. stay cool for summer!

Wow, 100th reply, this thing is hot now!
I support you, this is cool.
Although I think a mob like WIll-o'-the-wisp should not be added.
Someone suggested it, and I thought it was a cool idea. As far as it being added, it's up to Mojang. I thought it was cool enough to be added, so here it is. XD
Lol, thanks for the support. I guess alot more people like this than I origianlly anticipated if more than one thought of it. Actually, on that note, soon after Bats were added someone started up a different thread for Aesthetic Mobs! The nerve! This one had been around ALOT longer! ...I think I'm raging now. Sorry.
I disagree, people dont really like bats a ton. they drop nothing and add nothing. atmosphere is cool but it can be added with features
I personally love the bats. And i'm sure Batman likes them too. (sorry, had to. XD) In any case, the bats were added purely to add atmosphere. The thing with aesthetics, is that they add background to something, make it more alive. I can think of a few people I know who don't like Minecraft because it's "dull". Minecraft needs more atmosphere, many will attest to that.
Also, I still need stuff for the Aesthetic Mobs Overhaul! Feel free to add ideas on how it can be setup, or stuff I could add to it.

I love bats! They aren't anywhere near as good as sheep, though.
Anyway, what do you mean by "it can be added with features"? Features are basically just parts of the game, but you clearly don't mean visual effects or mobs, so what do you mean?
EDIT: I just realised how rude that sounded. Sorry about that.
Didn't sound that rude to me. And I think he was referring to an idea from awile ago, like fireflies providing a light source. It's as I said, I would like to revamp the thread, it's in dire need of one.
In other news...nevermind. I won't say it just yet.

Some of it seems good, but I think it would have to be kept to a minimum, or it would cause more trouble than it's worth.
This!
Original poster seems to "wander outward" in a wide range of directions, all coming from the same basic idea, but with a wide diversity of approaches.
clayxros I suggest you select ONE approach representing the BEST of your central idea, and even then, use ifor this single approach only THE most important and central "core" elements in that approach.
Design it as a suggestion for vanilla, relatively simple to add, not as a full fleshed out detailed and very varied mod! Unless that is what you aimed for, of course, in which case you should say so.
Thus, to better "concentrate" on the target of your idea, you select one of each of the following approach categories:
- Particle effects, vs true polygonal mob entities
- Creatures only, vs purely environmental effects
- Overworld, vs other dimensions
Otherwise, it all starts looking more and more like a wishlist that will never see the light of day, rather than a clear and specific suggestion.
Also, there shouldn't be so much "decoration" that you can't move 20 blocks anywhere without automatically encountering one those. Too much is just as bad as not enough, after all.
Any mob bigger than maybe say a simple butterfly, (i.e. anything with "volume" and not merely particles or only a pair of 2D shapes like it would be for a very simple butterfly) should be able to be killed just like it is with the bat mob.
Also, Will O Wisp are some kinds of spirits strongly attached to magical fary tales and should be a mob either dangerous or useful, "leading" the player either nowhere (merry-go-round) or in a trap (cliff fall, whatever) or an important place (temple, village, underground, etc.), not just a "merely decorative"' so those would probably be too complex to be part of a decorative mob suggestion and should probably warrant their own topic instead, given the complexity of their behavior. Instead of having will o wisp just wandering there doing nothing intelligent, and being merely cautiously curious (go away when you approach and move closer when you go away), just use fireflies intead. IF you put real will o wisp, theyve just got to have advanced logic and pathing to give them "true" purpose, be it benevolent, innocently malicious, or truly malignous.

This ain't a wishlist. It's a suggestion for possible aesthetics that could be added, centralizing on aesthetic mobs, such as bats. And, I have mentioned, it's in desprate need of an overhaul. I noticed it's very...dissorganized, and it needs a bit of pics to go with it. It's being worked on. You actually make some good points though, I'll need to integrate it into the revamped post. (like the chances of running into said aesthetics)

"We only really exist when someone looks at you, and they see someone. That is the moment you really begin to exist."
Fireflies blinking around at night in forest and plains biomes would be a nice touch. I've always loved fireflies simply for aesthetic purposes. Turtles, snakes (nonvenomous ones, like garter snakes and maybe pythons in jungle biomes), possibly foxes or raccoons would also be nice. I like turtles.
Bigfoot. He could be seen just out of the corner of your eye in heavily forested biomes and disappear when you look at him.
Just kidding, maybe not, but that would be cool if someone added him in a mod or something with that particular behavior.
Will-O-the-Wisps would also be a great supernatural touch, but, like mentioned above, their behavior is rather complex and would probably warrant a separate thread for discussion.
Truthfully, just a little more ambience would be appreciated. It's nice not being constantly burdened by insects and snakes and all manner of creatures, but it also gets boring without those things. Minecraft almost seems dull and lifeless without them, since livestock, dogs, and cats don't just spawn everywhere and not all of us play off Peaceful Mode (I'm a weenie...).
You also all seem to be forgetting that squids are pretty much there for aesthetic purposes, they just drop black dye and are nearly impossible to slay in the middle of the ocean.
A little ambience would be nice. Not too much, though. Maybe a couple pretty insects like fireflies and butterflies, maybe a mammal or reptile or fish here or there, little birds maybe, but keep it simple. Overdoing it is like make-up or facial piercings; it looks really nice but then you add too much and it looks like trash.
