I thought it would be a nice idea to be able to link your other saved worlds via portals. Or even just linking locations from one place to another in the same map. Dial in a location walk through or jump in a rail cart travelling through the portal.
It is usually not a smart idea to have your first few posts in the suggestions forum.
1. If you are suggesting a teleporter, then NO
2. What would be the point of linking other saved worlds, completely unnecessary

I find the lack of turtles in your thread disturbing
It would have to be reeeeeally, expensive, and involve diamonds, enderpearls, end stone, obsidian, glowstone, just for 1.
Its already in the game via nether portals. The nether has an 1:8 spatial relationship with the overworld. And while a bit awkward because of the exit portal algorithm, its still effective for long distance travel without having to build in a complex linking procedure just to get multiple portals running in MP.
As for other worlds, while possible, it would require some low level input from the user to locate files, and the game would have to be able to load multiple worlds at once.
Not really, It would be a simple interface where when you step in the portal, and instead of just warping you to your next world, you are presented with a world menu, and then you go to the world you choose. Worlds would only be available if there is extant "world portal" in them. I would limmit to one portal per world, so that the game knows where to spawn you. AND NO MEETING YOUR SELF! (open two minecraft games, open one to world A, open the other to world B. Portal from World A to World B, you would "meet" your self.) I would have it set so that if the save file is all ready being accessed, it won't make the list.

I like the idea of having one character that would be used in a number of worlds. It would make starting new worlds easier. Imagine making a portal to a new world and going through the portal would generate a new world. Linking could be automatic, with a portal generated on the other side. Otherwise you could be just dropped into existence there. You would need to mark the location if you wanted to get back. You couldn't return unless you made a return portal. That world would be locked.

I like the idea of Nether Portals but not really a fan. They are as you say awkward and not easy to control
I think with multiple worlds and user input to travel to each world can be solved easily. Portals could have signs at specified locations. one for the name of the portal and one for the destination. This would make travelling to another portal or world easy.
Different worlds would have portals and their names listed in a dat file so mc could easily locate the worlds/portals. You would only need to load the world if you are travelling to it.

I really like this idea. Sometimes the locations you visit can be troublesome to get to.
This would be great and give the player rewarding goals.

Sorry I'm not familiar with end portals. They could be a new type of portal. Nether portals have their own type of atmosphere.
Depending on how hard they were to make would conflict with how you abuse them.

I miss Stargate.
What are your thoughts/issues/solutions?

How about a teleporter within a world? Say one end in your house/base and one at depth for a mine/

I am ninja'd far too often.
But one it would be too easily abused.
And two I have no idea how this would be possible.

Oh Cool, very nice!
That will load a saved game or server...
From the comfort of your own world!
Genius.
or -1 me with your mind. One of them is less frustrating.
