I honestly hate the big iron golems getting in my way all the time and only protecting from zombies. But, i have a completely new idea for golems.
Snow Golems - Only found in the snowy biomes plus very rare
Iron Golems - Only found in NPC Villages
Now that those dudes are taken care of, heres my idea:
All of the following have 40 hearts of health and do 10 damage
TnT Golem - Made like iron golem but tnt instead of iron, protects from creepers by blowing them up. they absorb power then when they are about to die from a mob they explode using their absorbed power. drops nothing, and very risky
Ender Golem - Made end stone instead of iron, teleport to endermen and kill them. drops ender pearls, and pretty useful
Nether Golem - made netherrack instead of iron, holds a golden sword to kill pigmen. shoots the ghast balls at ghasts. isnt affected by fire, and hits blazes. jumps on magma cubes to kill them. drops netherrack and golden nuggets when dies, and can only spawn in the nether, so its alright
Undead Golem - made soul sand instead of iron, just walks up to zombies and hits them, nothing special. picks up drops from zombies, and drops them when it dies, good for getting those rare iron tool and armor drops
Skeletal Golem - made glass blocks instead of iron, shoots arrows at skeletons, and drops bones then it dies. its pretty good
Spider Golem - made obsidian in stead of iron, but tilted sideways to make, jumps at spiders and silverfish and attacks, and drops cobwebs when it dies. good for those pesky spawners in the abandoned mineshafts.
Gold-em - made gold blocks instead of iron, it attacks all friendly mobs for food, and drops that food, plus 4-6 gold ingots when it dies. only has 20 hearts. Definitely good if you have a lot of gold but no food.
Diamond Golem - made diamond blocks instead of iron. being the best of all golems, it has 120 hearts, attacks all hostile mobs, is incredibly fast, and deals 15 hearts of damage, and acts like a wolf (if you get attacked, it will fight whatever is attacking you). If you have the diamonds, this should be made.
I have to agree with Zippy here, I for one would like to see ONE new type of programmable golem made with stone (Made a thread on it actually) with redstone or something of the like, but we don't need like 20 different types. Please use the Search bar before posting.
Cobalt golem. Crafts from azure blocks by this scheme:

Has hear 300 HP, drops 3-5 diamond blocks but has weak attacks (just like biggest slime). In creative - for testing weapons, in survival - for exchanging one blue block to another. Also it has nice crafting scheme xD
While I'd like to see another Golem or two in the future, I don't think we need one to counter just about every mob and defintely not one for every ore. Do we even need a golem for every ore? I think not. The snow golem is not made of an ore. Honestly, I think the next golem, whenever they add it, should be a traditional stone golem that's hostile or neutral. The fourth and final golem could be the redstone-powered people seem to want a lot. After that, there'd be no more golems because five or more sounds ridiculous.
Well, I think four or five golems, just like dimensions would be enough. However, like with the new dimensions (Sky and whatever the other one is), I don't think the next two or three golems should be added for awhile. (maybe not even this year/ possibly not until after 2.0) I don't think two golems and 2.5 dimensions is enough overall, but for now, it is. (I count The End as a half dimension, because it's only for a boss fight.)

"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
It produce redstone signal on all blocks around. I had similar idea for Mars mod (red martian roach) but golem is much less "gremlinish" and more controllable.
By the time the newer golems would get added in my timelines, we'd probably have a fair share of new mobs, including prefix mobs, villagers would actually have a point, there would be a new boss or two (hopefully in boss rooms or structures and not boss dimensions), a new ore or two, and we might actually have a new dimension (preferably the Sky Dimension). That's not including any biome changes, more stuff to complement Modding API, and maybe some more internal changes (post-1.3).
Why say all that? I'm just trying to stress that no, I do not want new Golems added on the heels of the two we just got. I just feel that they need to eventually be added, but they need to be in a reasonable amount. We don't need 20 freakin' ores with one or two uses and we sure as hell don't need 20 freakin' Golems. However, 3-5 seems like a reasonable amount overall. I don't know how much longer this game will get updated, but even if it goes on for a few years, I feel we should get five Golems, tops. (Honestly, I'd prefer four to be max amount though, as with Dimensions. (Overworld, Nether, Sky, and The End) .. if we need any more after that, a Water World-esque water dimension should be the fifth one)
PS: Yeah, I prefer we get as many dimensions as Golems by game's end (that's tops, not at least). That's why I keep mentioning dimesnsions.
PPS: I said it once and I'll say it again. If there's one thing I'm against, it's the idea we need a golem for every ore or that certain block people think super tools should be out of. Originitally is key for future golems. The redstone-controlled golem doesn't have to be made of redstone or gold blocks. Who knows. Maybe, it could just be an upgraded Iron Golem that you can control. (Uses a redstone block for it's head, instead of a pumpkin, the redstone block could be added in a future update. Alternately, a redstone torch would fill in for the pumpkin.)

Having the ability to create a Golden Golem, which could be your personal guardian would also be cool.
If you can collect enough gold you have enough resources to fight army of skeletons and you don't need personal guard. If you want killing lots of mobs use snow or iron golems. One of them attacks from the distance, other - melee fighter. I think that's enough %) Other golems must have other purposes. Minecraft is not Mirrodin~

We don't need any more damn golems, these ideas are just plain overpowered.
