Stone bricks are given to you because it's not hard to cut stone into bricks, in a game where 3 diamonds with a couple of sticks next to them makes an axe. Sandstone bricks for a similar reason.
Moss isn't "made" or "crafted". You have to actually find it. Being a rare item and having to fight to get it gives it worth.
And why would "sea goop" become moss? Are you thinking of algae? That isn't at the bottom of water.
Honestly, moss should just frow from other moss blocks, like bluemagic's idea.
Yes and tall grass seeds turns into wheat. Do you see my point?
Then explain to me why no one complained about the ability to craft stone bricks and sandstone bricks.
So, by your logic, if there's one aesthetic block that's valuable, than all of them should?
Fine then. Since you like that style of gameplay, go start up a flatland survival map with structures turned off.
Now dirt and wool are your only blocks. Perfect gameplay style for someone like you.

I'm guessing that you didn't read the bottom part as well. It does not have to be the same type of mossy cobblestone, the original is a rare novelty item, the new one is not rare at all, but it looks similar and cool and it would be nice to use in creations. People aren't going to look at the new cobblestone and be like "whoa that guy has conquered a lot of dungeons" but instead they will be like "woah that house looks awesome".
Why are you saying something like that about me as a player anyways? It doesn't even make sense!
The only criticism you are supposed to give is constructive criticism about what you liked or didn't like from the idea.
Now you are presuming information about me and blaming me for it? How rude!
I take back my previous post, I thought it over some more and I agree, Mossy Cobblestone should remain a rare block.
I don't disagree.
I am talking about a slightly different textured mossy cobblestone block, because it looks cool.
Not because I want to show off my dungeoneering, that mossy cobblestone looks different.
I bet most of the people who dislike this post just read the title, which I can't blame for since it is slightly misleading.
If anyone actually read the post, you would see what I was really talking about.

The point was, saying "why doesn't anyone have a problem with crafting these blocks" isn't a valid excuse. The original mossy cobblestone was intended to be a trophy item. The sandstone items, stone bricks, and all those other aesthetic blocks weren't. They were merely used in various random structures.
I was merely just a bit angry at the time, so my apologies for that. On topic, how about you rename this block to something else? Because the stuff on the cobble isn't moss.

No, there's a much better way. I will now disclose information of the renewable resources mod I'm making, even though I originally planned to keep details secret.
So, moss should grow, not be crafted. But how to do this while maintaining challenge? Simple. Four conditions must be met in order for cobblestone or cracked stone brick (which I think should be randomly obtained just by mining stone brick, similar to how stone gives you cobblestone) to become mossy.
1. It is next to mossy cobblestone or mossy stone brick. Corners and edges don't count!
2. It is next to water. Again, corners and edges don't count.
3. It is next to air. Again, corners and edges don't count.
4. The light level of every single block around it is lower than 7.
This way, it would be difficult to have large moss farms without monsters spawning.
In addition, the chance of moss growth would be proportional to the number of mossy blocks around a block that updates. 1/80 for one block, 1/60 for two, 1/40 for three, and 1/20 for four blocks around it. (Just for time reference, each time a netherwart updates, there is a 1/10 chance it will grow, and it has to grow three times before it's final stage.)
We all read the part about 2 blocks, but your idea still makes it a not trophy block, and then you would get basically nothing good from dungeons exept for cookies and saddles(both useless)
And why would you think of Algie, that is a TERRIBLE idea when there is VINES, GRASS AND SEEDS!

Its not algae, its a sea goop thingy. I was just proposing a way to make an epic looking block. Also, mossy cobblestone isn't used like a decorative block as much as it is used as a trophy. You don't commonly see houses made from mossy cobblestone legitimately, they are normally safely protected since they are rare. My sea goop-y cobblestone would be common and people would be confident enough to use it in their creations.
Also, vines have a good enough use, a farm-able staircase source. Grass doesn't make sense either because it is way too common, and seeds can make food and are used for regular animal farming.
The sea goop thingy is for farming/gathering squids and creating a nice looking block for aesthetic purposes, not to rip off the original dungeon block.
i like the idea of "mossey blocks" it can even be more than just cobble... craft by putting vines on 4 sides of the block in the crafting table..and get one block....so what about the "rare factor" id rather be able to make it so i can use it for better progects and not have to play creative..
I personally think that to get mossy cobble there should be a new item involved like a herblism bench in witch you take your cobble put it with a vines or seed ex. and in couple of seconds it gives u mossy cobblestone simular to how a furnace works
i think we should all use common sense and logic when we answer and ask a question but always stay open minded
just cause science fails to explain something does not mean its real (afterlife, big foot, ghosts etc..) does not mean its fake try to stay opened mined instead of closed
Way to super-necro an idea that's already in the game.

"Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled Trainers should try to win with the Pokémon they love best."
That sort of makes sense.
