I am suggesting a multitude of more snow biomes to re-introduce Snow back into Minecraft. These various Biomes all have the idea of snowy and arctic in them and will all bring Christmas cheer, since it is near Christmas! Feel free to drop comments on this and add your own suggestions! Also, please vote. It helps me see who agrees with our (as in me and all of you) suggestions.
I give credit for the Icy Bricks and Icy Cobblestone, as well as the generation in caves, to the respectful people.
Table of Contents
1. New Items and Blocks
2. Updated Biomes
3. New Biome: Winter Wastelands
4. New Biome: Iceberg Oceans
5. Winter-Themed Mobs
1. New Items and Blocks
Ice Blocks:
- Ice Blocks have been updated to drop a new item, Ice Cubes! Ice Blocks now drop 2-4 Ice Cubes.
- Ice Blocks are crafted by placing one Ice Cube in each square on a crafting grid; makes 1 Ice Block.
- Ice Blocks can only be obtained through crafting or from a Chest in a Sunken Ship.
Ice Cubes:
- Ice Cubes can only be obtained through breaking an Ice Block.
- Ice Cubes are used in the making of Icy Stone Bricks, Ice Blocks and Icy Cobblestone.
Icy Stone Brick:
- Icy Stone Bricks looks like Mossy Stone Bricks, except with blue Ice instead of Moss.
- Icy Stone Bricks can only be obtained through crafting.
- Icy Stone Bricks are crafted by placing an Ice Cube and a Cobblestone Stone Brick together on a crafting grid (does not matter where); makes 1.
- Walking on an Icy Stone Brick has the same effect as walking on an Ice Block.
Icy Cobblestone:
- Icy Cobblestone looks like Mossy Cobblestone, except with blue Ice instead of Moss.
- Icy Cobblestone is found in Snowy biome caves and can be mined with a Wooden Pickaxe or better.
- Icy Cobblestone can be crafted by placing an Ice Cube and a Cobblestone together on a crafting grid (does not matter where); makes 1.
- Walking on an Icy Cobblestone has the same effect as walking on an Ice Block.
2. Updated Biomes
Taiga and Tundra biomes should be updated. Because a Taiga biome with too much snow makes it seem like it`s not a Taiga biome. So here are changes for these biomes!
- Snow will cover approximately 50% of the biome
- Grass will be found in patches in the biome, where Snow is not generated.
- Snow will become more scarce near the edge of the biome, where the biomes transition (unless it transitions to another Snowy biome, in which case there will be the same amount of snow as in the middle of the biome). This makes a much smoother transition than a straight line of snow where the biome ends!
- All water in the parts of the biome where snow is will become Ice Blocks! This makes the snow biomes feel colder to the eye, and make it look more realistic!
- Tundra biomes should have an additional 1 Block layer of Snow under certain areas. Snow is sometimes pretty deep!
- Reeds should not spawn in Taiga or Tundra biomes. This makes the game unrealistic!
3. New Biome: Winter Wastelands
Biome Properties:
The Winter Wastelands are a cold and harsh environment. No trees, flowers or reeds grow here. Also, planting a Sapling, flower or reed in this biome will not work. Winter Wastelands have Snow Blocks in place of Grass and Dirt, and ores generate more scarcely in this biome. No water generates in this biome but small ponds of Ice Blocks can be found, covered by Snow. Also, Ravines can be found, but they are much thinner (like a glacier crack) and their sides are covered by Snow and Ice Blocks. Also Caves are much more frequent in this biome. Ice Blocks are in the caves as frequent as water deposits.
Biome Mobs:
No mobs spawn in this biome, as this biome cannot support life. EXCEPT for Penguins! Their spawn in this biome and a little more than usual.
Biome Features:
Almost perfect for building large things, as this biome is almost completely flat.
4. New Biome: Iceberg Oceans
Biome Features:
This biome is virtually the same as a regular Ocean biome, except there are patches of Ice in the water, and most prominently small to medium sized islands of Snow Blocks, which float in the water (algthough unmoving) and have their entire bottom layer made of Ice Blocks.
Biome Mobs:
Whales can spawn as well as Penguins and Seals. No passive mobs spawn in this biome.
Biome Features:
Play with the Penguins or get attacked by a Seal! This biome is more for atheistic value than anything.
5. Winter-Themed Mobs
Penguins:
Penguins are a 1x1x2 Large mob with 7 Hearts of health. Penguins travel in groups of 4-16 and never seperate from the group. They spawn only in Winter Wasteland and Iceberg Ocean biomes. Penguins are passive until attacked, in which case they become hostile, and all other Penguins near the attacked Penguin also become hostile towards the attacker. Penguins attack the player by walking up to them, like a Zombie, and deal 1.5 Hearts of health upon hit. Penguins drop Eggs (0-1) and 3 Experience Orbs.
Whales:
Whales are a 3x2 Block large mob with a huge 30 Hearts of health. Whales only spawn in Ocean and Iceberg Ocean biomes. Whales are passive, and do not fight back. Whales can swim in water and cannot go onto land. Roughly once every 2 minutes a Whale will shoot a colum of water going up to 10 Blocks high, which will fall back down in seconds. Whales drop 6 Experience Orbs.
Seals:
Seals are a 2x1x1 Block large mob with 11 Hearts of health. Seals only spawn in Iceberg Ocean biomes. Seals are aggressive and will attack the player if the player is within 10 Blocks of the Seal. Seals can swim underwater and go on land, but recieve a -50% speed reduction while on land. They attack the player by simply walking into the player, like a Zombie, dealing 2 Hearts of damage each hit. Also, Seals attack Penguins as well. Seals drop Seal Tusks (2) and Leather (2-4).
Christmas-Oriented Ideas:
Gingerbread Block:
- Looks like a giant piece of gingerbread.
- Can only be obtained through collecting in an Elf Village.
- Right-clicking on one turns it into a Gingerbread half-block and restores 6 Hunger.
Gingerbread half-block:
- Looks like half of a giant piece of gingerbread.
- Can only be spawned into the world by right-clicking a Gingerbread Block.
- Can only be obtained through collecting.
- Right-clicking on one despawns the block and restores 6 Hunger.
Candy Cane Fence:
- looks like a giant piece of Candy Cane.
- Can only be obtained by collecting from an Elf Village.
- Connects like Redstone but acts as Fence (Fences have poles in them while going across and two cross-beams; Candy cane Fences have no pole while going across and 1 cross-beam).
Christmas Tree:
- Two Blocks in height; looks like an Evergreen tree.
- Can be placed on any surface; if ground is broken beneath it it will break.
- Purely for aesthetic value.
Presents:
- Comes in 3 different colors: Blue, Red, Green.
- Looks like a present.
- Can only be collected from an Elf Village.
- Acts like a chest but with only 1 slot.
- Can be placed side-by-side like a Chest to make a larger present and doubling the storage space.
- Can also be placed on top of each other for the same effect.
Christmas Lights:
- Can only be obtained through collecting from an Elf Village or by crafting like this:
= Dandelion Yellow Dye
= Rose Red Dye
= Redstone Dust
= Cactus Green Dye
= Lapis Lazuli
- Generates a Light level of 12.
- Can be placed on sides of blocks and on top of blocks.
- Connects like Redstone Wire.
New Biome: Winter Wonderland
Every little kid's dream is to go to a fantasy Winter Wonderland where everything is happy and Christmas-y! This is that dream, in Minecraft!
Biome Properties:
To start off, Winter Wonderland biomes are similar to Taiga biomes except there are clearings in them and the entire ground is covered in snow! Also, there are much less hills, but the ground can slowly incline/decline in level over an area! Flowers don't spawn in here either. Also, All passive mobs (aside from Snowmen) do not spawn. Also, Creepers do not spawn in this biome. Above-ground Ravines do not spawn, and rivers that spawn are made of Ice Blocks. Also, caves have Icy Cobblestone in them, as well as Ice Blocks. Snow Blocks surround surface entrances to the caves. Ores are 5% more frequent in this biome.
Biome Mobs:
We should add life to these biomes, don't you think? Snowmen naturally spawn in here, in groups of 1, although uncommon to see. They do not leave the Winter Wonderland biome and do not despawn! They also can respawn in the biome (rarely).
Biome Features:
Much like how Plains biomes have villages, the Winter Wonderland has Christmas Elf villages! These villages are rare to find (0-1 per biome) but they are completely worth it! All of the houses are either made of Wooden Planks or rarely, Gingerbread Blocks! All of the houses are topped with Snow and the streets are made of Cobblestone Blocks. In each village there are also Candy Cane Fences, which line the street. Elves also spawn in the villages which look like Villagers, but are half as tall and have toques and elf clothing. Attacking an elf will make all of the nearby Elves to attack! Also, on the overhang of the house roofs some have Christmas Lights on them! Finally, you can fins Christmas Trees in the front or even inside some of the homes. Around these trees are various Christmas Presents! Inside the presents are various Minecraft goodies including:
- Cookie (1-3)
- Golden Apple
- Apple
- Gold Ingot
- Diamond
- Cake
- Gold Sword
- Blaze Rod
- Ender Pearl
Merry Christmas Steve!
Elf Villagers:
- Elf Villagers are the same thing as Human Villagers, except shorter.
- When one is attacked, they behave like Zombie Pigmen.
- 6 Hearts of Health.
- Deal 1.5 Hearts of damage and attack like Zombies.
- Drops Present Blocks (0-1).
If you wish to add a suggestion to this or think we can improve on something, share your thoughts! Oh, and I will get on adding pictures of this stuff soon. These things take time ya know!
there are a lot of mistakes you need to revise in this, but it's ok
plus could you please credit me for the Icy stone bricks and Icy cobblestone, they were my ideas afterall...
I had commented on the other thread. I will put up a link to it in a second. Also, what mistakes are you talking about? This is a huge spur-of-the-moment idea, so it will need to revised of course. But I needed to get as much information out as possible before I lost it.

EDIT: Please put in your suggestions people!
"Ice cubes can only be obtained through crafting or from a Chest in a Sunken Ship"
ice blocks not cubes, based on the way you describe it
"Icy Stone Bricks can only be obtained by mining from a Sunken Ship with a Wooden Pickaxe or better or through crafting."
why would there be stone bricks on a sunken ship?
Icy Stone Bricks are crafted by placing an Ice Cube and a Cobblestone Brick together on a crafting grid (does not matter where); makes 1.
should not be able to be crafted, mossy stone bricks can't be crafted, these shouldn't be able to be crafted either seeing as it's for "looks" and nothing else
also, there is no such thing as "cobblestone brick" It's stone bricks.
- Icy Cobblestone can be crafted by placing an ice Cube and a Cobblestone together on a crafting grid (does not matter where); makes 1.
also should not be able to be crafted

this isn't candyland, it's minecraft, take this crap out completely
Taiga biome with no snow makes it seem like it`s not a Taiga biome.
taiga biomes have snow prior to a new pre release update, this will be fixed in the next update (1.1)
- Tundra biomes should be re-included into Minecraft.
what version of MC are you playing in? the latest is 1.0 and it includes tundra biomes.

They also can respawn in the biome (rarely). Also, Winter Bunnies are found quite commonly! Finally, killing a bunny will make all nearby bunnies run away and cause nearby Snowmen to attack! The Winter Wonderland does not like violence or disturbing the peace!
Biome Features:
Much like how Plains biomes have villages, the Winter Wonderland has Christmas Elf villages! These villages are rare to find (0-1 per biome) but they are completely worth it! no, definitely no.
maybe for a mod, but not in Vanilla minecraft.
Elf Villagers:
- Elf Villagers are the same thing as Human Villagers, except shorter.
- When one is attacked, they behave like Zombie Pigmen.
- 6 Hearts of Health.
- Deal 1.5 Hearts of damage and attack like Zombies.
- Drops Present Blocks (0-1).
as stated before, hell no
Bunnies:
- Similar to the Mo' Creatures Bunnies, except with white fur.
- Passive.
- When right-clicked, you can carry them on your head!
- 4 Hearts of Health.
- Drop nothing. Can breed with Wheat like any other Passive mob.
EDIT: They have Jack-O-Lanterns for Halloween. Why not Christmas things? Besides, if Mojang does look at this and decide to implement it, they can change it as they like. They have plenty of more far-fetched things, like throwing egg = chicken, and Ghasts. So I really don't see why Winter Wonderland can't be implemented into this idea. It adds a Christmas-y feeling to the game.
Again, this is your opinion on it. These villages are quite rare to find. So bah humbug to you! xD
EDIT again: You seem to be the only one who does not like my suggestion. Besides, where is your Christmas spirit? Half of my suggestion is just a joke because it's Christmas time.

I would love to co-ordinate our threads together and discuss more icy things. I don't believe we need so many different biomes to incorporate all these ideas, maybe just the 1 biome. This biome could have oceans to incorporate the sunken ships and the whales, seals and penguins, as well as include huge glaciers and on rare occasions elf villages. Just dial the villages down a little and that would be very good. I also have a new idea for a mob: The yeti. They only live in Ice caves and have 10 Hearts of health. No, they can't break through blocks, but they do deal 3 hearts of damage by using an ice club to hit you. They drop Leather and Ice cubes upon death. They will be 2 blocks tall like the player. Anyway, I will begin work on creating an example of some of the blocks you describe, and maybe we could get FireHazurd involved with some of the mob models.
Overall, for those of you with Tl;Dr syndrome, tough luck, you can read the rest of my post and not be lazy :wink.gif:
This Christmas ideas were more for a mod than anything because I don't think it will be incorporated into Minecraft. Also, thanks. Your picture is a actual Ice Brick (maybe used for Igloo villages (should be added as well into my suggestion) in the Winter Wasteland biome?). I had a different idea of Icy Bricks. They are kinda like this:
They are only found in Sunken Ships and parts of Strongholds that go into a Snowy biome, in place of Mossy Stone Brick.
These are good ideas, although I don't care for the christmas ones.
However, the smokestack thing doesn't make sense. Maybe a broken mast or something could be used to figure out where a sunken ship is located, and to get to it, you have to swim underwater.
Also, swimming in icy water should deplete your air bar faster.
These are good ideas, although I don't care for the christmas ones.

By the Smokestack... It was a reference to the Titanic. I know you can change it to a more mideval ship, but hey, in a mideval ship would there be metals and stone?
I am suggesting a multitude of more snow biomes to re-introduce Snow back into Minecraft. 3. New Biome: Winter Wastelands
These ideas and the christmas themed ideas i dont like, but i like the rest of it is awesome
However, the smokestack thing doesn't make sense. Maybe a broken mast or something could be used to figure out where a sunken ship is located, and to get to it, you have to swim underwater.
Also, swimming in icy water should deplete your air bar faster.
By the Smokestack... It was a reference to the Titanic. I know you can change it to a more mideval ship, but hey, in a mideval ship would there be metals and stone?
