As stated before, build a wall. Endermen can't pick up player placed stuff. or put water around you.
Just a suggestion, make it enderpearl instead of diamond if so..
Endermen can pick up everything except for water, lava, and bedrock. And I'm not even sure about bedrock, but I surely hope they can't. I've seen them holding all sorts of player placed blocks, stealing blocks from my buildings, and generally being a nuisance.
Might as well drop this in here too, i suggested in the complaining thread that redstone itself keeps endermen away, in about a 5x5x5 area, it'd protect all of the complicated contraptions people would be worried about having broken, and it'd be easy to hide for other things if you aren't using wire already. and it'd generally still leave walls vulnerable
It's possible, but I think redstone is too common for something that could repel endermen. Ender pearls would also force players to actually fight endermen, rather than hide behind their redstone-reinforced walls. That is, if ender pearls are only dropped by player kills of the endermen, not the sun or water.
Maybe it shouldn't stop them from teleporting and only prevent them from moving blocks in that area.
Stopping them from moving things is useful whether or not Enderman can move player placed blocks. Just because something is there naturally doesn't mean it isn't crucial. When building I often carve things into earth and stone, and sometimes a naturally placed block serves as a crucial part of my building. What if I carve a dam into the ground? Aside from ripping apart your buildings, Endermen can also just leave blocks in annoying places. A way of preventing that would be nice.
1 It's only a deterrent. Endermen will not enter the area of effect while non hostile. If you look at them or attack them however, the hostile enderman will be able to enter the "barrier".
2 A hostile enderman can not teleport into the barrier or out of it. If it attempts to teleport into the field, it will only get to the edge of the barrier, where it must continue on foot.
3 Again, once a hostile enderman is in the barrier, it can not teleport. If you run out of the barrier the enderman will have to follow you on foot until it escapes the field as well, at which point it can teleport as normal.
4 This one is somewhat optional, but if an enderman's health is reduced to 1 heart (It has 10 accpoding to the wiki) while inside the barrier, it will automatically die. Basically reducing max hp to 9 while in the barrier
Edit: A stone version would be greatly appreciated by the way, just tends to look better to me. And perhaps have the pearl at the top be a light source as well. light level either 7 (like redstone torches) or 10 (about halfway between redstone and regular torches)

I think an enderpearl on a stick looks rather boring. How about adding bones into the recipe, to increase difficulty to obtain, and also make it look rather cool.

You can't make metre cubed pieces of rock get jiggy with each other, that's just WRONG.
If they can pick up bedrock I think them holding player placed blocks is a glitch. Just don't assume that Notch ment to make Enderman pick up a block that's only purpose is to not let you get to the Void.
I have seen a fanmade video of enderman before 1.8 came out and in the video when the player looks at the Enderman he freezes sort of like a Boo in Mario. This is great because you would have to keep looking at him while running away from zombies other monsters.
@Optimatum In my experiences Enderman is more common than you might think, I've seen two right next to eachother.
*sigh* Endermen are rarer than other mobs. That doesn't mean they can't appear next to each other. It's called 'probability'.
Ender Pearls are going to be the new Slimeball, hard to get and no use at all.
No use? So halving the distance at which Endermen become hostile is no use? Teleporting Endermen away is no use? Being able to look at Endermen when right next to them is no use?

I've seen this repeated a lot by people here on the forums, but I've yet to see ANY official statement from Mojang stating that Endermen face any restriction whatsoever when choosing a block to carry.
Is that a ****ing Phantom Tollbooth in your sig?
If so, you are the coolest person I have ever encountered on the interwebs.
If you attack it from inside the totem's range, it can now enter the totem.
If you shoot at it it will take no damage, to stop 1 shot killing it from inside the totem.

At a loss for words? Here's a few you can use: Welcome, to Night Vale...
Perhaps it could enter if you fulfill attack requirements (look at it, attack it) but It would never naturally enter. This would be similar to creepers, leave it alone and it will not destroy your stuff.
What's up? I'm the proud co-owner of a little ClassiCube server called Minebuild.

Sometimes, you just need a little more cave.

If someone took the time to make a massive city, wouldn't they be willing to fight enough endermen to protect it?

If it was harder to make, it would protect more area to balance itself out.

That would work very well.

Anyway, until theres proof that they move player blocks in the official 1.8 then I do not support this.

I still like the idea of keeping them away though!
