First of all, don't get me wrong, I'm really happy with creative mode, but one thing is bothering me. I recently spent a lot of time blowing apart a mountain to keep creepers separated from my cows, and then, cows stopped spawning there. Since then, I've tried using minecarts, fishing rods, and a lot of other stuff to get animals to my home, none of which worked. Players need to be able to spawn mobs somehow. I know 1.9 brings breeding and stuff, but instantly spawning them, or being able to place spawners would help. Do you have an opinion or better idea?
They should drop something else, Notch only made them drop feathers because at the time (They originally had a chance of spawning with armour too) chickens weren't around so nothing dropped feathers.

Do not get attached to your saves, seriously, stuff like this has happened before, if there's something you love and really want to build...Wait for release.
Zombies are one of the weakest hostile mobs. It wouldn't be right if they dropped armor or apples or something rare. They should drop something like flint or sticks.
If the chance of spawning with armour was brought back they could drop heavily worn armour. They look exactly like the player with green skin so the could've been other explorers who, by some misfortune, died and were reanimated. By that train of logic, they could drop random items like used wood, stone and iron tools and swords.

So have them drop stuff people would be carrying! Flint, sticks, wood, some of the more common materials. Nothing too fancy, since they're so easy to kill.
EDIT: Or with the new NPC villages, assuming there is some sort of trade system, zombies could have a chance to drop something worthwhile to the villages? Maybe only if killed with a sword?
They could drop something like a special meat that does not heal just as much as pork, maybe less maybe more. And if you eat too much of that meat, you will loose health beacuz it is poisoned meat..
Well, I think people with Mob Grinders would agree they have a few chests filled with feathers.
My theory was always that zombies ate chickens when humans weren't around.
I think that zombies should drop something more useful, but I don't think it calls for a new item fullstop. Because this could potentially ruin the whole concept of "something" already in place.
I would propose zombies randomly dropping leather perhaps, maybe along with feathers... Because Zombies were apparently once people, maybe they carried things we did?
Besides, zombies look like they are wearing clothes in Vanilla.
What I would propose, less focus on the zombie component, but on the feather itself.
How about a new use for feathers? And if not, how about another way to get flint to make arrows?
All of these come to mind, and other stuff.
As for new items like rotten meat, that should be a mod, or a mod request.

If Notch ever gets around to doing the Zombie Apocalypse version, zombies should drop a random game item, with a higher chance of common items like stick, coal, or a feather, and a smaller chance of uncommon items like armor, pumpkins or tools, and a tiny chance of rare items, like records, diamonds, or weapons. These items should only drop at night or in a cave. So no going around every morning to pick stuff up off the ground. If you want them, you have to go out at night and face 50 zombies.

I'd support this if slimes didn't already exist. But I'm sure some variation would work well.
