You have to admit that it looks cool when you are on fire.
But it hurts you. So my suggestion is that you could infuse gold armor with netherrack to make armor that is fire resistant, so you can light yourself on fire without harm.
Imagine being in the arena as the champion charges you with blazing armor.
Being on fire would slowly sap the durability of the armor.
What would the armors durability be?
How do you craft it?
Would the difficulty of getting the items match up with the durability, or would you trade durability for look and if so why use it in the arena if its worse? How would you balance durability with the difficulty of getting it?
Why not make a whole bunch of different elemental armor?
Why dont you make a mod with elemental armor, or are you just going to be lazy and say "i want it to be in the actual game" instead of actually showing commitment.
Even if this is just a suggestion for the final game, which it shouldn't be (might be good as a mod though), if you actually care about you suggestion and want positive (or at least not abysmal) feedback then do some demo drawing for the armor (try a custom texture), think about how it would affect the MC world around it, what would it take to craft it and the order, and then think about the basic underlook of the armor itself...etc
You get it now?
Now if you follow all that advice (assuming you actually give a damn) you may have a 'neat' idea for a mod, it would also have to be compatible with smp because otherwise, who gives a damn.
Oh and dont reply to all the questions i made either.
Give some time to actually THINK about what you're suggesting beyond "oh fire armor would be neat".
"Fire" armor has been suggested before, but this is a unique take on it. I give you points for trying to give Gold a use, but Netherrack is far to common in the Nether. Maybe instead of Netherrack, you can take Netherrack and craft it into another block called "Condensed Netherrack".
It would be created by 9 blocks of Netherrack being crafted together. That way it takes a lot more blocks to make this, because it is kinda an OP armor if you think about it. The durability would have to be low to moderate in order for it to balance, or to have the recipe take a lot of work in order for it to have a normal to high durability.
And? I mean, this guy hasn't even replied back yet and you throw out "zingers" like:

Maybe instead of flaming, you could give some constructive criticism on how to improve the idea.

Nice idea, but needs some work.
Thank you for the suggestion.
The reason the idea is so unrefined is I was tired.
No, completely pointless unless you wanted to go lava diving, or swim across a lava lake, but anyways you could use water to douse it or blocks to make a bridge.
I'd just wear the helmet and say I got Minecraft Legendary Edition.

Anyway, imagine this combined with my armored wolves idea... o.O
dont remind me of that game...
OT: i think the idea needs to be improved, as others have stated, but i agree it would be neat to be able to charge like a flamin' cannonball at a horde of zombies, or, in smp, at a griefer. Only thing is, wouldnt it be pretty much the same as being on fire normally if it drains your durability? now, i'm no expert, but i thought that armour drained its durability to protect you from fire anyway... but ho hum, it would be a cool mod.

needs SOME work? he put a grand total of 5 sentences into his idea.
Chill bro. The world is still spinning, just as it was; and you're still alive.
Obviously, OP didn't put much thought into his suggestion. That's why the edit button exists.

Imagine being charged by a guy on fire, and his armored wolves, who are also on fire.
Awesomeness ensues.
