Most of you might have heard of the texture overhaul for the 1.13 update, and many dislike it and want to stick to the default textures. So why not keep both in the game? In the resourcepack menu, there should be both of the new and the old packs by default, so we can choose from them whenever we want. I hope that this feature comes in the game. If someone else has already posted a thread like this, or this is already planned, PM me and I will delete it.

I fully support this. It would make everyone happy, as it's not gameplay-changing (remember 1.9?)
I think the solution is just to get faithful if you want those textures...
Faithful is 32x32, or more. It's not bringing back the original textures.
If they were gonna make it optional, why make the change to begin with? That's just stupid planning and programming.
I got good news for you though, this is something you can do yourself! just make a copy of your 1.12 Minecraft folder, and paste all the textures into a resource pack. And boom, you will never have to face the horrifying reality of someone changing a minor thing in a video game ever again!
I never said that I don't want the new textures, I am actually excited about them.

But what if you're building in a server? or what if a YouTuber will use this pack and you have to watch them use those horrible realistic vanilla wannabe pack. I don't think this texture change is needed for the game, i hate changes.
I was under the impression that old textures would be left as an alternate resource pack, but don't quote me on that. This would be okay, but it's a bit redundant for the reasons above. It's pretty easy to make a texture pack out of the old textures. I'm sure there will be tons of walkthroughs coming out for how to use the old textures for 1.13+.
Very little support.

Let me know if my posts are helpful or if you like them. That's what I'm here for.
I am currently lurking more than I am posting. I haven't gone anywhere.
I don't see a problem with this. Simply adding the original textures in the resource pack folder from the beginning so people can change them back if they want does no harm. "Why change something in the game and just make it optional" is a pretty silly thing to say, textures will always be optional, it doesn't make anyone unable to play with you and doesn't affect the gameplay in any sense. This would just make it easier for those who don't like the new textures.
The new designing team is aiming to make this change universal across all platforms of the game so giving people an in-game opt-out would surely conflict with that since it wouldn't be universal anymore.
If this is true, how come Mojang lets people use resource packs on servers?

Remember those versions that minecraft pranked us with? Specifically:
Minecraft 2.0
Minecraft 1.VR-Pre1
Snapshot 15w14a
Minecraft 3D
Those are still downloadable! Watch this video for 2.0:
To download the other ones you need to make a folder in the versions folder for minecraft and put the client and JSON file for the versions in there. They all need to be named the same aside from file extensions. Once you do that, you will be able to choose that version when making a new profile with the minecraft launcher.
works for me, no like it has any huge effect on gameplay. although I should mention that the texture overhaul is to bring the onlder textures in line with the newer ones, this is because Notch and Jeb had different visions for the games, Notch imaginied a simpleer graphics style
while Jeb thought some more advanced textures would be better
well, something like that atleast, either way your worlds should look better now

I personnaly think that the new textures are superior to previous ones, but I understand that some nostalgic (or people actually liking the old textures) want to use old ones.

No, but they don't need to change the textures at all, we can just get a texture pack if we want new textures.
Thanks for the support! I hope that developers should think about it.
Thanks!
I don't have any Twitter or Facebook etc, so it would be nice if someone from here carried this message to the developers.
I never said that I don't want the new textures, I am actually excited about them.

nah, this will make sure that nostalgists would never get used to the new textures
