A simple-ish suggestion. Normally you get multiple Totems when raiding a mansion, but you're only one person, so I suggest that when you right click a pet you own, it will carry a Totem in their mouth:
-------------------------------------
They can only hold one at a time, and if you right click them with an empty hand, you can pick it up again.
The reason for this is because pets are generally fragile, and it's terribly risky to take them with you, especially when things like Creepers can potentially 1-shot them. This makes them durable enough to survive strong attacks without making them near-invincible if they were to equip armor or something like that.
They're still not strong enough to help out much on something like an Enderdragon, but at least they're not going to die from looking at a zombie this time around. I think maybe saddled horses or pigs could hold them too, but one is pretty strong, and can't really die by anything except maybe stray arrows (And plus it has armor), while the pig generally isn't worth using unless you're going for that achievement.
I don't know, I don't think pets are useful enough to warrant them an entire new feature. I don't usually use dogs in survival, or at least practically, but when I do I breed hundreds of them. So if one dies, I'll just get another one, and it's not that big of a deal. They're more of a tool to me than an actual companion. (Call me a heartless monster all you want, but I don't get attached to pixels and sound effects.) Also, why would you even give it to your pets? Sure, you can only use one at a TIME. but if you have multiple, you can cheat death multiple times. Your pet doesn't need or deserve one, while for the player, it's incredibly valuable and you should hoard them instead of giving it to something that will probably die anyway. (Again, call me a heartless monster all you want.)

Fair point, but looking from the perspective of those who do love their pets, it doesn't sound too bad. I mean I would rather keep them for myself too, but don't see a problem in the suggestion.

And considering how useless totems of undying are, this would be fantastic (not really for me, I'm not really into pets/mounts). Another use for them other than simply being a trophy.

Exactly my point. Why waste something very useful for something you can literally make again with only bones or fish. I can see why you came up with this idea, but it's not worth it. Support: 0%

Support. Very often my wolves accidentally get killed by something that is so lame. (like a creeper or a skeleton or a zombie, etc)

What is it? It's magic...
Great idea, pets do die easily, and this would give pet lovers another reason to love the woodland mansion

I have nothing here, go look somewhere else.
Being able to put armor on your dogs would be pretty cool and useful too.

I support many pets/animals must be able to carry potions; undying potion included. Animals that carry chests also.
