Banners are pretty cool, since you can design many different things on them. But what if you could design beds like banners? If you haven't already heard, we'll be able to dye our beds in the 1.12 update. So we're not too far away from being able to add designs to our beds. Designing it would work just like designer a banner, except you just replace the banner with the bed. This would be great if you're making a map, or just want to add a little more detail to whatever you're building. This should be added because beds tend to be a bit boring with their solid colour and should have the ability to be edited to be more interesting.
I would like this. Having more Tile Entities isn't the worst thing in the world, it is more or less harmless as long as you aren't filling huge spaces with them.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
I know about banners. My reasoning for not supporting it with beds, however, is that banners and beds are different sizes. Plus the pillow gets in the way. So either everything would need to be so distorted that it'd be pretty hard to figure out what the bed is supposed to represent, or it just wouldn't work period.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.

Simple changes to the shapes for banners would be quick and easy to do, all you're doing is adjusting a couple pixels. And you don't draw over the pillow, so it would sit there beside the newly sized banner.

Well who says it has to be a 1 to 1 match of the same things that the Banner has? The OP says the mechanic would work just like how banners work, but that doesn't mean patterns couldn't change or be adjusted. Personally it would be nice if certain recipes only affected the pillow, so I could do something like a pillow with a moon on it and a blanket with stars.

It's more than a few pixels, and what are you even saying about the pillow?

My problem is that, since it wouldn't be a 1 to 1 ratio, everything would have to be severely distorted. So either something would go wrong because of the distortion code, or the banner-beds would need a complete redesign for the looks. And then there's the pillow, and it all just doesn't seem worthwhile considering you could just hand whatever banner you wantedone block overhead.

That is my point though. It doesn't have to have the same designs just distorted to fit the bed. We both are in agreement that it wouldn't look right. But it doesn't have to be like that anyways. It can use the same mechanic of dyes + object in a specific pattern = specific pattern on that object, but the patterns can be redesigned to fit beds. They don't have to be distorted to try and be similar to whatever the same pattern would be on a banner. That would be the worst way to go about this considering how different beds look.

This would take way too many combinations. They'd need to become tile entities, and I don't think it's worthwhile just for extra bed customisation.
