Have you guys know that a full max out smite, diamond sword still couldn't one shot a skeleton? I mean bane of arthropods IV one shots a spider. Was it intentional?
Short math: 7 base damage for diamond sword+ (2.5) times 5 = 19.5
Solution:
-19.5 could rounded up to 20 damage.
-But then sharpness 2 and 4 would be pointless to upgrade to 3 and 5.
-so...
Solution #2:
-Instead of going from weak to strong we can flip to strong to weak.
For example: Sharp IV diamond sword is 9.5 damage so first it does 9 damage then 10. But we can flip so it's 10 damage then 2nd hit is 9 damage.
-Another thing strange is that I tested it out that smite V diamond sword alwaysthe 1st hit is 19 damage.
For example: There's 2 skeletons, I hit both of them but none of them had died as a one shot kill.
-So going from strong to weak makes the damage to skeletons/zombies always 20 damage.
Reason for the buff:
-No need to critical hit. (Makes it more comfortable.)
-Makes sense that a max out smite diamond sword should at least one shot a skeleton, maybe 2 shot a zombie without a critical hit.
-Gives a reason why to choose smite over sharpness. (If they both 2 shot a skeleton, what's the point?)
Personal reason: It's honestly just a troll to have less than a half a heart and survive.
P.S: Sorry for a long post, I could've made it somehow more simple but I'm being precise with evidence and describing/prescribing the frustration lol.
(I'm still a newbie and it's my 2nd thread.)

-No need to critical hit. (Makes it more comfortable.) I don't get it.
-Makes sense that a max out smite diamond sword should at least one shot a skeleton, maybe 2 shot a zombie without a critical hit. Making something easier doesn't mean that it makes more sense.
-Gives a reason why to choose smite over sharpness. (If they both 2 shot a skeleton, what's the point?) The point is that one does more damage to all types of mobs while one does even more damage to only undead mobs. The oneshottingness of a skeleton doesn't need to be in the weight of that decision.
Personal reason: It's honestly just a troll to have less than a half a heart and survive.
This is easy to achieve even without enchantments. Potions can already do this. Just the mere concept of one-hitting a skeleton is pretty beefy.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
Well ok, I'm not really buffing it but rather changing it. I guessing around 1.6-1.8.9, the smite V enchantment diamond sword used to one shot skeletons which gave a reason for this enchantment. But the enchantment wasn't nerfed, the diamond sword was in terms of damage. It was 8 damage in 1.8.9 and in 1.9+ its 7. I think the purpose was mostly balance out the sharpness so it can be perfectly 10 damage. But I don't think it was met to distribute the smite enchantment in general. And it's not a bug, I just think Mojang wasn't really aware of this just in case. They probably met to nerf sharpness not smite.
I just think smite V diamond sword was met to 1 shot kill at least a skeleton. (Not zombie since it has natural armor and even in 1.8 still a zombie was a 2 shot kill.) Think about bane of arthropods IV, it one shots a spider. Wouldn't that be to overpowered?
Why couldn't smite do the same with skeletons?
Mathematically: 19.5 is ~ 20 but since 0.5 damage matters so much due to sharpness, I had a solution by doing stronger attack 1st than weak. (I hope this is easy to understand.) like instead of doing 19 damage 1st its does 20 damage 1st than 19 damage. Overall it's still 19.5 of damage. So it's more of a fix rather than a buff. But I'm sorry, I'll reedit this topic since I guess it was misleading into actually thinking that it's buffing by 0.5 damage. I learned that +0.5 damage is actually a big deal. (No sarcasm.)
Let's take another example: Such as 99.9%, it should be rounded to 100%. It was that close for a smite V diamond sword to come as a one shot kill. I hope you understand my frustration. Also it makes sense that it one shots a skeleton not because it's only admittedly easy but mathematically it makes more sense. Also emotionally. Otherwise it's much more convenient to get a sharpness V or rather a smite II, III or IV diamond sword since they all 2 shot kill a skeleton. I hope this persuaded you guys or feel free to disagree with a reasoning. Thank you.

Smite on its own is pretty powerful, I don't think it needs any buffing.
