We already have the ability to customize the maximum health a player can have, so why not shanks?
Using attributes and commands, you can customize the maximum shanks a player can have. For example, if a player has Shank Boost 1, they will have 12 shanks instead of the normal 10! Let's see the difference:
Without Shank Boost:
With Shank Boost:
Every level of Shank Boost will add 2 shanks. () So with Shank Boost 2, you will have 14 shanks.
Using attributes, the maximum shanks can be up to 1.7e308! (That's more than 300 zeros, people.) This attribute is known as: generic.maxShanks.
With this, any item you hold with this attribute can increase the maximum shanks by any amount you wish. With generic.maxShanks being 1, your shanks can be 10.5. This effect can be reversed to minimize the amount of shanks you have. With generic.maxShanks being -14, you will have 3 shanks. ()
Final note:
This effect can not be obtained in survival without using commands.

Shank boost sounds more like a potion effect.
It'd be nice to have both a potion effect and attribute actually.
I can support this, though I much prefer it called "Hunger boost" or something because shank... Doesn't really roll off the tongue very well.
Oh and to make it in-line of health boost, I rather the additional hunger stacks on top of the bar.
I find your suggestion really interesting , so I support !
So , good luck with your idea ,
Have a nice day!
Unbeliavable ...
No reason not to. Full support. Would fit in very well with the current effects ingame.
The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird would be able to cross the entire Minecraft world in just shy of 17 hours.
Why not? The most we can control hunger right now is with Saturation and Hunger, so this'll be a welcome change.
Watch out for the crabocalypse. Some say the day will never come. But it will.
Feel free to drop by for a chat whenever.
If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
Yes, just like health, extra shanks are on top of the bar.
