What do hitches do? Hitches connect mine carts together, as well as boats. However, you can't connect a minecart to a boat. This would be useful for transporting items by hooking a mine cart to a mine cart with a chest. Another example of how hitches could be useful is preventing the vehicle from getting away from the base or some other desired area.

I do like the idea of being able to "hitch" minecarts together. I've wanted to connect a string of carts to a powered cart and chug up and down my mine rails fully loaded with tools, ores, and other valuables. Being able to hitch a horse to carts would also be snazzy.
I am one of those people who believe if it can be done with something already in the game there is no reason to add a new item for that one purpose.
I think that Leads could do this just fine. They could "Hitch" boats/Minecarts to things and already have traits that would just need to be applied to Minecarts and boats.

I am one of those people who believe if it can be done with something already in the game there is no reason to add a new item for that one purpose.

It wouldn't make any sense to connect minecarts/boats together with a lead. That makes as much sense as walking a tamed wolf in minecraft with a trailer hitch. Also, leads are pretty fragile, being made of string, and we need something strong to hold these vehicles together.

I don't think it has any kind of use with boats though, because there isn't anything like a boat with chest or something (I'm not sure if something like that is ever to be added, if so, then hitches would be useful for boats).

Edit: It looks like I read over a small part of the post. I think it would be more realistic to have ropes to connect boats to fences or something, rather than hitches.
