Hi im new to these forums so if i unintentionally ripped someone else's idea please let me know.
So basically heres my idea.
1. add a blue flower
this will make it so there are blue, red, and yellow flowers. ( keep reading )
2. let us plant, farm, and harvest flowers.
im thinking that The flowers would grow multiple flowers on it so that we can know when to harvest them.
3. let us cross pollinate them.
the way this would work is simple, take two different colored flowers put them in your crafting table and then there is a very slight chance that it is successful. im thinking about a 10% chance for a successful cross-pollination. if successful it would mix the two colors sooo blue+red=purple red+yellow=Orange....... so on
4. Finally with wool, and a flower you can craft a colored wool brick.
5.? maybe new clothes and hats that are craftable from the cloth bricks
1. Makes farming more interesting
2. everyone likes purdy colors.
3. flowers are manly, just like punching sheep.
4. wool needs a use. found one.
5. could be tide in with the hinted alchemy stuff
6. hats make every game more fun (look at team fortress 2!)
I'm not sure if Notch was planning on adding blue flowers, but I believe he already wanted to add dyes to the game (probably made from flowers...?). If so, I think the first block you would be able to color with these dyes would be wool blocks (and you'd probably need a paintbrush or something for anything else? This is all based on memory and speculation, so some of it may be putting words into Notch's mouth).
Wool has also been suggested for use as clothing before, especially as clothing or an addition to clothing that provides less defense, but protects you in cold biomes (once biomes are put into the game).
I do like your idea for blue flowers, although that has been suggested before on this forum, along with the idea to be able to plant them and farm them. I haven't seen any suggestions for cross pollination to my knowledge, yet, though.

hay thanks for the positive comments you just made my day
i agree with this idea fully. you could ever make it slightly complicated for the dyes like you could cross pollinate flowers over and over to try and get the color you want, from a programmers view you could have the values say Red flowers are 255 red, 0yelllow 0 blue, ect.. then say you mix the yellow and blue to make green (0 red, 135 yellow, 135 blue) BUT then mix a blue with that green to make blue green (0 red, 70 yellow, 195 blue) , then blue again to make basically a Cyan or teal Color. that way you can make more then just 6 colors to 12 colors. this would lead to fields of flowers of various colors used for dying purposes and would but interesting seeing what combinations players could come up with for the dyes. Also you could have White flowers growing underground, (due to lack of sun light) and could be used to lighten the dyes when combining in order to make sky blue or hot pink type colors. and i would say a black flower to darken it but it seems back in the day they just used Coal. so *shrug*. also with the inplimentation of dyes to dye blocks i could change up some "furniture" in my house such as the bed i crafted with 6 gravel blocks and 3 cloth blocks. getting kind of bored with grey sheets. lol
well, just pitching my 2 cents out there. hope this idea passes.

I'd rather keep it as it is. Different colors would require different blocks, and there's a limit on how many blocks can be put into the game (I think 256).
1. why would there be a limit to how many blocks there could be? the limit can always be increased even if there was a limit.
2. when you say "keep it as is" do you mean you completely disagree with this topic of creating dyes?
3. how many slots of this "block limit" are in use? roughly 40-50 currently?

There is no such block limit
It can be increased just with the increase of size of the game
Block limit is not a real problem, people disagreeing to good suggestions is
I like this, except instead of cross pollination, you just mix dyes together. Maybe the same color could come from different sources like a blue flower and a blue glowing mushroom kind of thing. Or the red flower and a red mushroom. Maybe yellow could come from the brown mushroom(the insides might be yellow) and the yellow flower.

Please feel free to make CONSTRUCTED criticism.
This does multiple things:
1. Makes farming more interesting
2. everyone likes purdy colors.
3. flowers are manly, just like punching sheep.
