If you mean make a seed you cantmake one you must find one.
If you generate a random world you press F3 look at the mid left to find the seed.the that seed is the one you post.
If you type in a seed the seed; tha is what you post.
Seeds are a random number (if you type in a word, it converts the letters to numbers) and than uses that random number in a formula that generates the terrain, some numbers end up creating some really crazy terrain.

In Layman's terms, when you make a new world, you need to go to the seed section of "More World Options" and enter a name. There is no way to control what the seed will generate, so you're pretty much stuck if that's what you were looking for.

Not to be confused with the Urban Dictionary definition of Blaning...
you can put text in the seed box. People just type in random words until something cool comes out.
To expand on this, your computer takes whatever text you type in and turns that string of characters into a predictable number (relative to that string of characters). The computer then uses that number as the starting number (seed if you will) of its random number generator routine. That means if I use the text string "Hi there" and you do too, we should both end up with the same world. Note that "hithere", "HI,THERE", or "hi theer" will all produce different numerical seeds and thus different worlds.
As someone previously mentioned, once you are in your generated world, if you press F3 (I prefer Shift-F3) you will get the Debug readout and in it is a Seed: statement. Note that a seed can be either negative or positive and will produce two entirely different worlds.
When your computer is generating a new world it is making a HUGE number of decisions on where to put hills, ocean, villages, etc. each time it has to make one of these decisions it asks its random number generator for a number which it then uses to make that particular decision.
Side note: Since the hardware and undoubtedly the underlying software is different in the XBox360 seed results on the XBox are not the same as the results of that seed on a PC or Mac. (Question-are seeds transportable between PCs and Macs?)

I believe the main reason that XBox generator does not match PC is that it uses 1.7.3 generator (now) instead of 1.2.5/1.3. There have been reports that seeds (like 404) that worked for PC 1.7.3 also work for XBox.
As for the PC version (Apple/Mac, MS/Win and Linux) I have used them all and can verify that that the same seed generates the same world as long as the same version of Minecraft is used. When you think about it this only makes sense, as these all run using the Java virtual machine, which provides an identical operating environment regardless of the host platform being used.
hansel0,
Thank you for that information.
That all makes sense.

Seriously? You can't make seeds. You find them. Artomix was something a guy typed in the seed text box, and Minecraft made the seed. Moral of the story: You can't make seeds. Minecraft does.
Seeds are a random number (if you type in a word, it converts the letters to numbers) and than uses that random number in a formula that generates the terrain, some numbers end up creating some really crazy terrain.
I need help. I have good ideas and a good spot for a seed, but I need to know how to make one (duh).
I was just wondering if anyone knew how, since, well, there's already a lot of seeds made by some of you guys.
Super ultra mega useful information: http://en.wikipedia....iki/Random_seed A seed: A number that gets a random number creator going
Minecraft works off of random numbers. It uses random numbers for mob drops, random numbers for generation like strongholds and mineshafts, it uses random numbers for cavern creation, it uses random numbers to decide what to put in a village chest, it uses random numbers to decide when a sapling should grow into a tree, or when wheat should mature, it uses random numbers to create explosion craters, it uses random numbers to spawn underground ores, it uses random numbers to spawn monsters, it uses random numbers to separate biomes, [ . . . ], and it also uses random numbers to produce the hills and terrain and stuff. Well what happens if you don't type a seed? It makes itself one by using the computer's date and time and somehow merging that into a seed (usually java core libraries handle this) Well what happens if you type letters into the seed box?
It uses the java string method "HashCode()" to get the string's "Hash code" and uses that to make a string.
Oracle says it does this:
public int hashCode() Returns a hash code for this string. The hash code for a String object is computed as
s[0]*31^(n-1) + s[1]*31^(n-2) + ... + s[n-1]
using int arithmetic, where s is the ith character of the string, n is the length of the string, and ^ indicates exponentiation. (The hash value of the empty string is zero.)
Well then how do you get your world's seed: You type "/seed" or you hit F3 or use a method shown above.
Basically you don't make a seed, you find an interesting world and you take it's seed. Or you type some words into the box and find something interesting in the world.
Bottom Line: If I can Google it, you can too.Believe it or not I don't think even half of all ~300 trillion seeds have been used yet and you want to make a list of them all.
Actually the total number of possible seeds is 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 ranging from -9,223,372,036,854,775,808 to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807.
A MineCraft seed can be any signed 64 bit integer so there are a total of 2 to the 64th power possible seeds.

Easy Make A new world and then find a perfect place to make the seed, then type in text bar "/seed" And then it will show you the seed!!!!!!
That's not how it works.
As I stated above all possible seeds for MineCraft are in the range of -2^63 to 2^63 for a total of 2^64 seeds.
If you type in ANY text that it is not a number in that range or is zero (or blank) MineCraft will "hash" the characters into a numeric seed that is in range and then use that number as the seed for that world.
By the way, if you accidentally type a space after a numeric seed you WILL NOT get the world you expect.
EVERY time a particular number is entered as a seed the same world is produced.
The only variation is the exact spawn point, which can move around a little.
(This, of course, assumes that there hasn't been a change in the world generator software during a MineCraft version update.)
If all six billion people on earth played Minecraft continuously and tried a new seed every minute, it would take just short of six thousand years to play every possible MineCraft world.
(Actually 5849.42 years)

Then how come someone made a seed called artomix? it works. I'm pretty sure you can make a seed.
He didn't make it, he typed 'artomix' into the seed box before generating the world and got that world. /seed shows you the seed of the world which if the seed box is left empty uses your computer's system time to generate a seed. One cannot create a seed, one can only discover a seed.
EDIT: People have already corrected the assumption. Disregard this post.
