Notch must of made certain words or numbers give awesome worlds.
I spawned in a massive desert with really big sand dunes, it was beautiful.
Then some random guy came up to me and round house kicked me to the nether and back.
Edit: I looked behind me and there was a forest biomone with amazing cliffs...

Oddly enough using "minecraft" does give you everything you need to start. However using "Minecraft" (capitalized) Starts you in a tundra with no trees for miles! I guess the capitalized "M" is for MANLY

Looking around a bit will get you to this valley. In my save, I spawn right in it; you can move your spawn using mcedit.
-2945350671081178213 is the seed for my secondary world. This seed is filled with awesome terrain: natural arches, unusual overhangs, funky cliffs up north, two sizable floating islands to the southeast of the main plain. In my generation, I spawned in a large, mostly treeless plain perfect for building, surrounded by awesome terrain features.
Obviously the world was greifed by trolls XD

Back in my day, sheep dropped brown mushrooms, and by golly we... Hated it, pretty much.
seed: Leave blank for a random seed
gives you almost flatgrass at:
x= -4
z= -60
Just chop down some trees and fill in a lake or 2 and you got a nice building spot.
