Hey everyone,
For all the map makers out there wanting to make a map with the new shields, you'll probably want to use /give or /replaceitem to give the shields.
But how do you do that?
Well...
I use this website to create banners: http://www.needcoolshoes.com/banner?=mabKoglh
When you have your banner, take your code,
example:
/give @p minecraft:banner 1 0 {BlockEntityTag:{Base:12,Patterns:[{Pattern:gru,Color:1},{Pattern:bt,Color:14},{Pattern:bts,Color:11}]}}
Than, replace the word "banner" with "shield"
/give @p minecraft:shield 1 0 {BlockEntityTag:{Base:12,Patterns:[{Pattern:gru,Color:1},{Pattern:bt,Color:14},{Pattern:bts,Color:11}]}}
And there you've got yourself a custom shield, have fun

Thanks, I'm discovering a lot of stuff while making a new map.
And if you'd like to put the shield in the off hand slot:

This is a very neat trick and has already proved very useful. Cheers mate, ~Nibby
What if I were to summon an item? The command successfully executed when I entered it, however the output was a normal shield with no art on it.
This is what I did:
summon Item ~ ~ ~ {Motion:[0.0,.4,0.0],Item:{id:"minecraft:shield",Count:1},BlockEntityTag:{Base:7,Patterns:[{Color:8,Pattern:"cbo"},{Color:8,Pattern:"bri"},{Color:7,Pattern:"gru"},{Color:7,Pattern:"gra"},{Color:7,Pattern:"sku"}]}}
Does anyone the proper way to summon a shield with art on it?
