Does anyone have any tips for making your own redstone creations because i feel as if it's all been done, then some big redstoner like SethBling comes and blows that thought out of the water...
I just don't seem o have any inspiration for building redstone stuff as well, unfortunately... i really love the idea of building with redstone, but then i can never think of anything to build.
I hate to reawaken a dead post, but this sort of thinking demands a response.
You will never be able to build things like those that impress you as long as you
believe you can't. Only when you open yourself to the possibility that you can
do it, will you take the necessary action to gain the knowledge so you can
express youself creatively.
Creativity is combination of knowledge, inspiration, skills, talent and most of
all belief in ones ability to create. I'm an artist, and believe me, that was the
hardest lesson to learn and have sink in.
Give yourself a project. Don't start too big, you'll get discouraged, but also don't start with something that's been done before repeatedly.
EG try to make a quadrature decoder. It's a pretty easy circuit, just D flip flops and some XOR gates (though one xor should be 4-input, and you'll need a clock). Then find ways to use it (I can think of several, but that would ruin the fun, and I'd rather see what you come up with.)
personally i like making farms, factories, ect. if you are looking for something to build you could always think of something that you have to do on your own (ie. farming wheat) and make a contraption to do it for you
My main issue with farms and such is that they generally have been done before. It doesn't feel that creative to make yet another wheat farm, unless it's smaller/faster/requires less interaction or such. And improving on the current designs is not really a beginner project.
Wheras something like a pulse width modulator isn't a common project in minecraft (I've seen two, ever) and it's a very common tool in digital circuit design (so it's easy to find designs outside minecraft to base the in-minecraft version off of.)

smaller? i disagree... when i make farms i think about how big i need them and make them at least 5 times as big
it doesnt matter if it has been done before if you design things yourself... its about the build... once you have built it you wont need to produce the (insert whatever type of farm/factory you made here) so you will have lots of time to build more redstone stuff
I too didn't know anything when I started. But I'll tell you where I started. I watched Stobesy's "How to be a Redstone Expert"
This is a really good series, it starts with the basics and continues through to advanced circuits.
Once you do this series and work along with it by building everything in the show you will know enough to start expressing
some creativity when you get an idea. Ideas will be easier to get since you know more of what can be done, and how to do it.
So start with this. You probably know some of the early vid logic gates, but it gets into better stuff pretty quick. If you know
the stuff he's teaching in one lesson, just move on to next one where it's unfamiliar.
Just go out and start randomly building redstone. This works quite well for me. You may build something nobody else ever has, you may build something that everyone knows of. Just keep trying and someday you may find the next big thing.
The question should be: How not to be creative with redstone?

Good luck - n believe in urself
Thanks for that. I'll check it out
And thanks everyone else as well
This has been really helpful
Another good thing with the series is by building with it, you end up with a Redstone world full of circuits. A library of redstone if you will which will be invaluable for you

Can someone please help? I'll give you internet

i was just saying i couldn't do it because I know very little, if anything, past logic gates.
