We know that Minecraft 1.5 is the "Redstone update", but what comes next? What on earth is in store for us in 1.6? Please post anything you know about what could possibly be in 1.6.
I'm guessing we're quite a ways away from having any insight on this, but I'm personally hoping it's a NPC and Mobs content update. What I mean is more diverse mobs, more bosses and mini-bosses, villagers that can build and expand their villages, quests, and things like that.

Check out my Lets Play! It would be much appreciated! :3
I sure hope it's a terrain generation update. The terrain really needs to become a high-priority once the Redstone Update is finished. It's had too many problems for too many months.
EDIT: Also includes ocean updates. I can't stress enough how barren they are.
Underwater content would be great, but I doubt that that's gonna happen. If they were to implement the idea of there being a sky dimension after the End, though... but again, I highly doubt it.
I don't care what it is particularly, just as long as it fixes long-standing bugs, adds decent features that don't truly "ruin Minecraft," and doesn't lag to oblivion.
Personally, I just want bugs fixed, underwater content, a "Livable" Nether (can survive on more than wood tools forever), a way to set your spawn in the nether, and (just saw this above) Testfisicates building/ expanding their own village. Not all in one update, because that would end up coming out in June.
That is been discussed many times , and Jeb confirmed that it ll not happen any soon !
No sky dimension or any other similar !
The sky dimension is now the end ! End of topic !
And that is where you are wrong, my friend. One of the devs posted something on reddit around Minecon about working on turning the End into "something more beautiful" once you kill the Enderdragon. Could probably be a sky dimension. I can't find the post, though. If 1.6 is a terrain update, this is something we could probably see in that update.
I may not be able to tell you what 1.6 will be about, but I can say one thing; it'll have a "6" in the version number!
You believe wrong.
the Bone hath spoken. Also good confirmation that they are sticking to a new specific updates every month or two as stated at minecon. Now if only we could get lecterns... =3

You mean more and more chain reactions of game-breaking bugs (like being unable to swim against flowing water) will make the first actual release of 1.6 (instead of pre-releases) to be 1.6.6?
My main hope is that many bugs will be fixed, including mob- and entity- related graphical glitches, as well as increasing frame rate and reducing lag. Some of these might be fixed in 1.5, but I hope that all bugs will be fixed eventually. If all of these bugs are fixed, then I will be happy even if nothing in the rest of this post is implemented.
If more blocks are to be added, I would like blocks that serve as more building materials. I think that the quartz blocks are a step in the right direction, and I hope that more naturally-generating blocks will be added that can serve as building materials. Digging is pretty boring. If a block is not an ore (as is usually the case), then it will be dirt, stone, or gravel. That's about it. I think that more forms of rocks should be added, such as slate, chalk, or shale. These would not have any technological purpose, but would serve as a building materials. and will also simply make caves look prettier. I would definitely use these blocks to make my cave-home more colorful (even if it is simply a dark shade of grey).
I also have a bunch of technology-based ideas, but I assume that after 1.5 we won't get much more technology.

- Lighting Engine Rewrite
- Mod API
- Ruby Ore, Armor, Blocks, & Tools
- Mob Buffs
- Bug Fixes
This isn't a bad list of things. It certainly would be nice to mix and match tool/armor durability and strength a bit more (say something is stronger than diamond but doesn't last as long) but if it's been stated that we won't get any new tiers in that category, I can settle I suppose.
On the note of the terrain generation, I personally would like to see something that looks a little more realistic. I know this is Minecraft, but maybe even some biome reworking would be nice. Example being snow spawning under trees in taigas or some editing to trees so they are taller and seem more like trees. Just some thoughts.

Oh yeah, and MOD API!

Because there doing to much major updates. period.
EDIT: i guess it will actually be a major update. with the mod API. i thought the Light rewrite was 1.5.
Jeb has already stated that there will be no more armor or tool tiers, and the lighting engine rewrite is happening in 1.5.
Yes! Let's totally ignore the two already unfinished dimensions and add more!

My prediction is that it'll have a "1" in it as well. Am I right or am I right?

Basalt would be a good idea IMO
