I know that 1.5 is the Redstone update, but it would be pleasant to see something that is in the creative side of Minecraft rather than the Adventurous side... (I hope that makes sense :S)
Here's what I'm really waiting for in future updates. Hopefully in 1.5
-More Bosses, the wither and enderdragon were pretty cool but maybe a few more would make it more fun!
-Able to change your username
-Extra armor slots like a shield, ring, etc
-Add more armor types (Silver, platinum, and etc)
-Make it possible to craft the same item with 2 different recipes
-Be able to stack more items, like boats and stuff
-Be able to make ore farms, like coal,iron, gold, etc farms

-Pirates? Have a large boat with cannons
-New village? Maybe a viking village and you can receive quests to go get materials or ores or go kill for example 10 creepers to get stuff like a viking helmet thays really strong.
-More nether mobs
-Sharks (a hostile mob), visible fish (a detail),sea turtles, sting/manta rays (hostile when attacked) whales (non hostile where if you kill you can get oil as a longer alternive for coal, and/or food
-Spear (a different attacking object thats built by 2 sticks, 1 iron and a sting ray tail?)
-Coral reefs, seaweed, etc.
-A nether ore
-Rubys
-A hypnotism potion? you can hypnotize zombies, skeletons, creepers, etc for 30 seconds or a minute ( or until they die) to fight for you
- Built in pyramids with mummys as a hostile mob and a chest with lots of gold
-A plane like a hot air balloon?
I have more just dont feel like posting them

I won't be asking too much because it just makes me sad that most of suggestions takes a good half year to be implemented.....
-However what I want is a new command block-like block that changes state whenever it identifies a player by the arguments given.
Like from glass-state to stone-state, so it can conduct redstone pulses. This shouldn't be too much to ask for. Just a suggestion.
My ideas:

Simply put, you want mobs and items.
I think they are well thought-out, expect adding mobs will make texture-pack makers less unique. (It makes it difficult to alter the game to a new meaning, that's what I think)
And I don't quite get this spear thing. Minecraft is not about killing, but collecting. I think bow already fills the position of ranged weapon. Furthermore it's hard to make a melee weapon that's different from the sword we already have. You still have to go pick up the XP and items.
---My idea is that if we add a string to it, maybe it'll be like a pimped version of a fishing rod. You can throw it, and save the time to pick it back up again. Also you can get the items with it, like how fishing rod gets the fish.

Make it so there's actually a reason to build a house.
--Bring back nightmares, being woken by mobs if your bed is in a place where they can spawn
--Make a thief mob (runs away if damaged) that can open doors, climb ladders open chests etc...
--Make water and rain ruin things like books, many wooden items, turn dirt to mud that flows down like gravel
Start the makings of ships. Perhaps
--a keel item that can be made of 3 logs. It floats like a boat, but can have planks put on top of it as long
as they don't overhang more than a certain amount (3 blocks long ways, 2 to the side)
--a mast item that can be made of 3 fence posts and two frames. this allows your keel and all on it to sail as directed
--planks on keels become "deck" blocks on which items can be placed and stay with the ship, but only if they don't hang past
the edge of the deck (which is max 5 by 9 blocks)
More Lava Stuff
--Lava Boat. Made of 5 enchanting tables AND has to be enchanted costing 30 levels
--Lava Sharks swimming in the lava lakes in the nether
Diving Gear
--Made of melons and sugarcane and maybe Rubber (!)
--donned like armor, means you have to take armor off
--slows depletion of breath underwater to one tenth rate
Sunken Ruins
--villages underwater, inhabited by merpeople (who are neutral rather than passive)
--sunken temples
Disasters: there should be a sense that something is coming that you have to be prepared for
--one in 1000 chance per day of some kind of disaster and last about as long as rain
--one is a wave of day walking mobs
--another might be a meteor shower, rocks fall from sky like creeper explosions that leave random minerals
--or flood (all water levels rise randomly (one to ten blocks)

It has been a very long time since a person has made so many suggestions with so little that I can agree with. Besides the possible addition of more aquatic mobs (not merepeople) I agree with almost nothing here.

They mentioned linked minecarts. Im guessing that it will be done by placing a minecart in the middle on a crafting bench, and then placing 2 iron ingots, one to the left of the cart, one to the right. This way you get a hooked minecart, which if is right next to another hooked minecart on the rails connects. They unconnect if you break a minecart.
You want missions, download an RPG mod.
Adding coral reefs as a resource would be a good way to give them purpose.
