8 iron blocks, 2 pumpkins full set of diamond armor( enchanting optional), diamond Sword( smite recommended but not needed), 1 potion of regeneration/ Beacon with with health regeneration on, 4 insta-health lvl 2 splash potions ( not needed but it will save your golems) 4 soulsand and 3 wither skulls.
How to Fight it.
first dig about 40 blocks down into your battlefield of choice( i use the overworld). then make yourself a hole that is 5 wide, 4 high, and 11-15 long. spawn you 2 iron golems on opposite sides of the room. then place your soulsand T shape and when ready Summon your wither. while it is charging up the iron golems will start attacking it. this is when you take your regen potion. while it finishes summoning your battle begins. since the room is so small the golem will attack the Wither while it try to "eat" itself away from them. it mostly eats sideways. after the wither 2/3 health use your splash potions on it. this while heal your golems some hearts and also damage the wither. after it hits half health it cant fly anymore so golems will hit it more.
all in all the fight should take about 30 sec to 1 min.
the main reason this is the best way to fight the wither is that Iron golems tank soo much damage.
meaning your only taking 1/3 of the full damage the wither can do all fight.
Final thoughts on the wither.
The Withers Power Lvl is in a good place Right now. This Fight is intended to happen in super late game. Meaning if it was any easier that it would be like the ender dragon( easy and not fun to fight).
I thought he was impossibly hard at first, there was a lot of me running away all over the place even with several buff potions, full diamond armor with enchantments, etc. I ended up getting killed 3 times.
I finally "took a stand" and managed to shoot arrows from afar; of course after the first shot he found where I was and came at me but unlike my previous attempts to do this I kept firing. The Bow had Power IV this time which made it go a lot faster than my unenchanted bow that I had used before. However this time my change of strategy involved when it got to half health. Instead of me sitting around like a dope, I charged straight at it and finished it off with my Smite V diamond sword, which made short work of it.
Very rewarding battle. I fought it in the overworld so it was probably harder than it needed to be, really. It took forever just to get the skeleton heads, before the first one dropped I was skeptical that it was even a possible drop. I've been trying to get a Looting sword to hopefully make it easier to get them.
i was hoping so badly when i saw this that you werent one of the people that went and said "just get super enchantments to make u an invincible tank HURR."
because lots of people do that.
however, i very much like your strategy, and i'll keep it in mind. knowing my skill with actually hard bosses, though, it'll probably kick my ass four times before i beat it. just like the Terraria bosses.
Haha! You don't even have to do all of that. All you need to do is Just go in a cave, and beat the snot out of him in iron/diamond. It worked for me. Just make sure you use Strength potions II so you can kill him a bit faster. With diamond armor, he only took 2 hearts from me on easy.(Yea, I play on easy. Sorry.)

Nice strategy, but there is no way to have a beacon when you fight the Wither.
Unless you are fighting your second Wither. But I guess the beacon is optional anyway, just use potions on the first fight instead. I find that the long lasting regeneration potions work fairly well if you drink one at the start of the fight.

...but that's just like, my opinion, man.
U MAD?!
Praise be to Spode.
Does it take suffocation damage?

Where's the fun in that though?
