The new lava texture is a bit duller and what's worse is that the old texture was since classic. That's right! SINCE CLASSIC!
And now one of the classic textures got killed.
The old texture was slightly more vivid. It would have red, orange and yellow. The new texture has lesser shades. I was forced to make old gravel texture, old food texture for my texture pack. And what's next? Lava.
Here's the comparison.
The original lava texture. The new lava texture.
Notice the lack of reds and yellows in the new lava texture? This is dull. The new lava texture is too orange! It looks like carrot soup rather than lava.
Mojang, what have you done with the lava textures?
Back in early Minecraft, that stuff was BRIGHT and blinding to the eye. The amount of tilled-like texture to the old one just made it horrid to look at in-game. The new one gives more of the appearance of lava to me. It's a soothing, bubbly, and molting lava, and it fits in with the caves then the old texture, in my opinion.
People that complain about minecraft and then play it later are so annoying! Its ok just get used of it I hated the new food textures before but now i think theyre better, same thing with the lava!
Where am I supposed to get the old lava texture? I can't find it anywhere in minecraft.jar! I'm trying to downdate the lava texture to old. I'm trying to prepare my texture pack for 1.5, with the old textures!
I'll have you know, I played Classic when I first created my account back in 2011. I later moved to PC Gamer Demo and the textures remained the same.
Classic 0.30 had the old lava texture that remained the same in 1.4.7.
I moved to 1.3.1 and eventually later upgraded until 1.4.7.
The new lava texture is what's keeping me from upgrading me to 1.5 later.

There is no old Lava Texture. The difference between versions that makes it look like a new texture is in fact Minecraft, for the first time, using the Lava texture in terrain.png. Previous to the texture change, the Lava (and water, I believe) textures were procedurally generated. This was also why you couldn't retexture it through terrain.png.
You are allowed to state your opinion, but don;t you dare try to pass it off as fact.
'The new lava texture is bad' is your opinion, not a fact. Learn the bloody difference.
The only way I can think of would be to use a previous version of Minecraft and use a tool like fraps or something to take intermittent screen captures as you look straight down, with no GUI shown, at a single block of Lava right underneath you.
It would of course be some work to properly crop the images to the size of the texture, resize it, and then make it into a Image Strip, but it's certainly possible.

When I come across one texture I see in a game I don't like my first reaction isn't THIS IS HORRIBLE OMG I CANT PLAY ANYMORE.
Its more like, hmm that could have been better but I see the style they were going with.

Which is 10 times worse!
It didn't even have an animation!

Woah woah!
Get a texture pack.

Praise be to Spode.
Good thing we have texture packs! If I so desired, I could change the lava into cheese!
