I use torches mainly because they're toggleable and... I got no knowledge of rs block-piston logic. For example, I got no idea how to make a monostable circuit without redstone torches. and redstone blocks, for me, look nice and are a great and cheap alternative for atmospheric indoor lighting.
You can actually hide a redstone torch underneath the block you want to power, which is what I tend to do when making a railway. Just saying
I realise that, it's what I did before redstone blocks. I just think these look snazzier and are easier to set up.Especially if you need to make a railway going through water.
