Gotta love all the unjust hate. For people who are thinking that this is more laggy, it is in fact less laggy than single player. the only reason that it is laggy is either from your crap computer, or its just smp at it's works, which is buggy lag intensive stuff. but that won't be permanent, because now mojang can focus on one version and make both better than they were. so be patient, fellow minecrafters..
This wasn't the intention of me posting the screenshot; merely to validate that I was on 1.3, and that the game was running fine for me. (as I had built that base entirely over the 1.3 snapshots and up to now) But here:
GTX 570
i5 2500K 3.4Ghz
8GB CAS 3 Latency of RAM
32MB 7200RPM 1TB HDD.
It's normally closer to 500 frames, but I'm forcing 32x CSAA (which is why the image looks so crisp), so my framerate is about halved.
I get over 300 fps. When minecraft was updated to 1.3, it combined single player with multiplayer. They now run alongside each other (LAN). There is technically no longer SSP but it is SMP disquised as SSP

My specs:
Intel i5 4690k, EVGA GTX 970 SC, 8 gigs of ram, Samsung 840 pro 256 gig SSD, ASUS Sabertooth Mark II Motherboard, Antec 900 Case, WD Black 2 TB Hard Drive.
There may not be a distinctive difference, but I do think it will make updating the game easier for Mojang. They won't have to worry about bugs in multiplayer and singleplayer. They'll have one set of things to look at instead of two. I personally think it's an improvement.

I think the semantics of this could be argued. Many games run under similar setups, which allows for things like drop-in and drop-out coop. GMod has a single-player mode, and this is what everyone called it, but you can actually pop it open to let people join after typing a couple of commands into the console. (sv_lan 0 and heartbeat)
Personally I think we all should agree that clicking single-player and loading up a world is still single-player -- it's just that it can become opened to play as multiplayer via the LAN function. I feel this compartmentalization is important because - while it may seem more obvious that you're actually in a server in Minecraft - it's helps make for easy distinction when discussing.
singleplayer logic is gone, yes. but you've still got singleplayer games. you can still play on your own. there's a few bugs, yes, but its not nearly as bad as what multiplayer used to be.
stop complaining and have some patience. they said they would fix everything they can, and they will.
btw, i got a large fps boost. i still dont run more than 30 fps most of the time, but its sure as hell better than 5.

What kind of ungodly computer do you run that you get 243 fps!
As of right now, there is no true single-player, only a laggy and computer intensive multi-player.

Please define multiplayer.
I'm pretty sure that I'm the only one playing, I'm single...

Funny thing is I get a better performance using the latest minecraft, no hinch of lag at all.
And my FPS boosted by 30
Because he is grossly outnumbered.
Also, my surveys show that most players get a performance boost. His argument is fail.
Anyways, my FPS went to 20-40 FPS to 60-75 FPS!
