My brother an I have been trying to figure it out but we haven't been able to... I have noticed that the pausing feature has been removed from sp again :/
unfortunately, you need 2 accounts to do this... I let my son play on my account on his computer, I wanted to see if we could play together, but alas not.. Looks as if I will be getting another account for my 4 year old ...
Edit:
Wow, price is $26.99 now .. got my account for $15 .... Looks like he may have to wait a little bit. poor kid, he was all excited about finding Papa in Minecraft. ooh well. maybe someday

Statistics show that people who tell others they need to get a new computer are twice as likely to use "gay" as a negative descriptor and will most likely never see genitals in real life, at least while not in prison.
It may not work for everyone. For one thing it uses a random port, unlikely to be the default 25565 minecraft port, so you would need to include the specific port it is using at that time for connecting to it or port forwarding.
However, in Linux, instead of binding to ANY IP on the computer, it bound to a specific alternate localhost address (127.0.1.1) and netstat and nmap from another computer showed that is was not even listening on my LAN connection. My details are in reply to another post about this. There may be a way to get around that to the localhost IP using an ssh tunnel or iptables (in Linux), but that is not automatic, or something most people know how to do.

Disconnect and reconnect. You should be able to pause now.

I've been a Minecraft player since Beta 1.7, still my favorite game!

I finally got it working. For those who are having errors, End of Stream and Lost Connection, read the following and see if they help:
1) Make sure all players are updated to 12w24a snapshot. The server host needs to have cheats enabled, and type "/publish".
2) It will give you something like this: Home-PC:xxxxx OR User-HP:xxxxx (Where the name of your computer is followed by x's, and where the x's are numbers), whoever wants to join must go to MULTIPLAYER -> DIRECT CONNECT -> and type that Home/User IP into the IP box.
3) Remember that, this is a local server, so small area networks will work better ( you definitely wont be able to connect to a server in another town, xD )
That is about all the help I can give. Hope you guys get it working!
I am ninja'd far too often.

EDIT - Empty post.
We got it to work once but now it wont work. On one comp it says Unknown host and on the other it says End of stream :/
I have the same problem D:

We managed to get it to work 1/10 times, always seemed to get "End of Stream" errors.
Awesome feature.. assuming they get it to work reliably.
