Jeb gives us a new brick in 1.2, but completely abandons Nether brick? When are we going to get a recipe for it? When are we going to be able to make it without having to get lucky and find a nether fortress? What if the fortress doesn't have enough bricks to make what you want?
I don't think it'll ever get a recipe. Nether Fortresses aren't hard to find and I think there is an unlimited number of them. It's not like the mossy stone brick or cracked stone brick that are in limited quantities because they're only from strongholds
Great, another forum user who assumes too much. At no point were we promised nether brick as a renewable source, nor as a craftable item, don't get enough in a fortress? Boo hoo.
Nether Fortresses are not finite like strongholds. Find one, then walk in a straight line on the Z axis. You will find another.
Netherbrick will likely never get a recipe because it's unnecessary. Not everything should come easy in the game.
I don't want to destroy a nether fortresses. Nether fortresses are really cool. We need to have a way to get nether brick without having to destroy a nether fortresses, use creative mode or spawn them as an op on multiplayer.
Edit:
It looks like complete ****ing **** anyway.
You could just change the the blocks texture if you don't like it.

I disagree. I think that the rarity of Netherbrick is intentional as the Nether is supposed to be a tough place to gather materials and resources. This is then reinforced by the fact that there is no crafting recipe.

WOW.
It doesn't have a recipe because Notch was a lazy ass who threw things into the game with little thought and work. Most of the work Jeb did when he took the lead was to finish all the crap that Notch left half finished. SMH
While having a recipe would be handy for building projects, there's arguments for the current status. Not having a recipe makes it a rare resource, a somewhat "valuable" thing to build your house out of. If it could be mass produced from Netherrack, it wouldn't be much more impressive than normal stone.
It doesn't need a recipe. Not everything needs a recipe. Find a nether fortress, collect the bricks, use what you get. If you're so anal about not being able to have unlimited building supplies, play creative.
1-Nether fortresses are easy to find, and are actually pretty big.
2-I think the intention was like to say:
''Hey guys!I went to the nether, fought dangerous monsters, and here is my proof!
So I think it is supossed to be like Mossy Cobblestone and Mossy/Cracked Stone Brick,a achievement block.

Notch is a programmer who created most of Minecraft from scratch. This undoubtedly required hours upon hours of thinking, coding, planning, and creating textures to make the game enjoyable. In other words he is in no way a , "lazy ass".

Have you even seen a Nether Fortress before? If you've even scratched the surface of one of them, you'll notice that you could probably walk away with probably, at minimum, 5 full stacks of brick.
What the f*** are you building that needs so much brick?
"Science isn't a matter of WHY, it's a matter of WHY NOT? WHY is so much of our science dangerous? Why don't you marry safe science if you love it so much? In fact, why don't you invent a special safety door that won't slam you in the butt on your way out? BECAUSE YOU ARE FIRED!" -Cave Johnson
The nether ruins have those very tall thick columns of netherbrick, and like mentioned earlier, there are infinite ruins. Also, you guys don't have to deal with difficult mobs in the nether, so you can't even complain about finding another ruin.
Yeah, I'm kinda with the people who say it's fine without a crafting recipe. It's more impressive that way, and it's not like it's hard to find large quantities anyway. Adds some challenge to the game.

There is a big difference between need and want. A. BIG. DIFFERENCE.

Netherbrick couldn't possibly be lacking a recipe because it was never planned to have one to begin with, right? It has to be due to Notch's "lazy ass" because you have personal, in-depth knowledge of Notch's plans, thoughts, and what he decided to not do due to "laziness." Am I right?

If you consider ten hours of searching under the constant fireballs of ghasts "not hard," then I'll have to agree with you.

Not hard to find large quantities, and adds some challenge? I don't get it.
Making a crafting recipe for it would not necessarily take away the challenge. For example, in the renewable resources mod I'm making, I have actually found a challenging way to obtain every single "challenging" item except clay.
I want to note that many people are saying how this is fine, and how it's a good thing to have to scavenge far and wide for more bricks.
I just want to point out that the general forum concensus regarding the bug whereby sheep would regrow colored wool had almost everyone in agreement that it was a good thing.. because it was stupid to force the player to travel far and wide to find the dyes to make enough colored wool to make useful projects.
I realize it's not necessarily the same people making both arguments.. but it's a definite difference in overall opinion on game mechanics.
In my opinion, building with Nether Brick should be seen as just as valid as using colored wool, and the same mentality should apply. Therefore it should be craftable, or more easily attainable.
It's certainly fair to be open for proper debate.. instead of some of the flippant and insulting comments that have been made, dismissing it out of hand. It seems people don't think things through, this is extremely parallel with the color dyes issue.

Well, that might make me a hypocrit in that case. I like regrowing wool but dislike the idea of a nether brick recipe. Once you find a ruin that's an estimated 4000 or more netherbrick, and that's just one ruin.
@BlueMagic: Have a problem fighting ghasts to get there? Bat away their bombs with your bare hand, don't forget you can stand still and watch their bombs fly way over your head..
Basically my argument is that once you find it, it's in such mass quantity that there would be no need for a recipe. Being able to cook a material into nether bricks and then crafting them into nether brick blocks would be cool, but once again there are so many in one ruin.
