In my opinion those new "glazed" blocks doesn't seem to belong to the game. On the other hand, concrete blocks are well welcomed. It would be nice to have stairs and slabs of these blocks too.
It's hard to think on a good place to use those "carnival-like" blocks anyway.
Easy solution: do not use them if you don't have to
I completely agree that the terracotta seems "Unminecrafty" (I thought so when i first saw them) but if you ignore the more vibrant colors like the orange, lime, and magenta, the more subtle ones such as the gray, brown, and black are nice for simple, easy patterned floors.

The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird would be able to cross the entire Minecraft world in just shy of 17 hours.
Well then we should just shut down all opinions and suggestions, right? The heck with feedback!!!!!!!!!
Boy, that escalated quickly.
If you want to know how people think of them on a percent scale, all of the polls on this site I've seen show about a 10% disapproval rating. 9 out of 10 people like, or are at least alright, with these blocks. My biggest question is why not just use a resource pack? Then you can control how the blocks work. Go ahead and give feedback, the devs appreciate it, but realize you are in the vast minority, and also notice the many alternatives. Nobody is forcing you to use these.

Yeah, when it comes to crafting, Terracptta is probably one of the most convoluted blocks to actually get anyways. First you gotta dig up some clay, craft it back into clay blocks, harden those in a furnace, and then cook them again to get Terracotta. And if you want a specific color, you gotta dye the Clay before cooking it a second time.
they're pretty easy to ignore.
The process is greatly reduced to just gathering and smelting if you dig the hardened clay out of a mesa, but in contrast to other blocks it is pretty convoluted.

If 9 of 10 people say keep the so-called swastika on the Creeper blocks does that mean they should stay?
The sample size here is so small as to be statistically insignificant to determine what the larger community thinks.
Because Mojang already gets enough crap for using ideas from mods. Besides, just don't use them. It's as simple as that.
honestly, they should ignore the complaints about adding modded content. especially when it comes to something that doesnt even influence actual gameplay, like the addition of decorative blocks. a lot of mods do an excellent job at extending the contend of the base game while still fitting in with minecrafts style.
i mean look at mods like quark for example, that do things as simple as adding different chest variants for all the wood types.
i have no feelings in either direction when it comes to most of the new blocks added. but i also think they didnt go far enough with the changes.
personally, i would have loved marble and basalt (plus brick, stairs and cobblestone variants) as building blocks like some of the mods add. and imo they could add the entire chisel mod straight into the game without any issue.
if those blocks wouldnt come from mods originally, no one would even notice or complain if they were added to the base game.
The thing with these new glazed terracotta blocks is that they have some amazing potential for building, but only when used correctly. Personally, I feel like they fit well as a highlight block, or as a detail that can really drive home a build's theme. It's just when they are used rampantly or when they clash with other blocks that they become an eyesore. I think it's also important to limit the terracotta block's use in large flat surfaces unless they blend well, since they tend to pop out in a bad way when unaccompanied by texturing.
Also, I know at first it may seem like these blocks don't fit in at all, but give them some time; it's like how people say that it takes 7 times listening to a song to see whether you truly dislike it or not. You can even try looking at some cool ways they have been used already - maybe some inspiration and experimentation may change your opinion!
So i'm not supposed to weigh in my opinion because some one says don't use them? No I want a block that all of us can use and like. These are just so ugly it makes me mad. I would have expected more designs that follow the feel of minecraft, even if they were wicked crazy in colors.
Blocks like that or even the carpets from chisel 2 (which I loved.) The current blocks look like poorly designed carpets and the concrete from what I can tell is just a solid color.
It's not a solid color if you look closely enough you will see lighter/darker dots.

It seems as if only the building community likes these blocks. We haven't had a major building update since 1.8, which was almost 3 years ago now. Yeah. There's a reason people like these.
Well, Logdotzip( I am sorry if I am not allowed to use that name here ) said that the 1.12 update was for creative mode. And of course terracotta blocks are new. Minecraft is not forcing you to use those blocks. You can use them, or you can not. And it would be better if Microsoft makes a new Id system so that it can add more varieties of blocks. Hopefully,
Guess what there are just as many people that don't like them. I don't hate all of the blocks i'm just saying most of them don't look good and they could have done better. The new current blocks look like they had no idea on what to add and just put some random in here.
You like the blocks? good just say you do, why you think we're wrong and then leave until more replies. Don't say "Then just don't use it then." It's the laziest way people shut down other opinions. The time to get a change is now before the update hits.
First, I seriously doubt that there are as many people who don't like the ne blocks as do like them just because you say so. I suspect most people do like them or have no opinion. Unless you can come up with some real numbers you shouldn't say this like it's a fact.
Second, Mojang is not going to remove this because there are a few whiners in the community. There are whiners with every update and you just happen to not like this particular update.
Third, you need to accept that you should move on and just not use the blocks, If Mojang listened to every complaint about what they include in updates we would never see nor would we ever have seen an update to the game.

1.13 - New id systems
1.14 - New slabs and stairs
1.15 - Skyland dimension
2.0 - A major transformation
Please limit the discussion in this thread to the 1.12 blocks. Talks about future versions is not covered by this thread topic.

For the last time, Microsoft is not doing anything to Minecraft, Microsoft doesn't have anything to do with Minecraft's development.

I don't have opinion as of yet, so I can't say anything about the new blocks. Actually, I haven't even tested the new snapshots yet.
Like Mojang is not going to remove anything they have already added, just because of small community of whiners don't like the new stuff.
This is easiest solution, as. Well. There is not other solution. Yes, you can always make your own resource pack, but some of us don't bother with that, so the easiest, and best solution is not to use them.
Glazed terracotta shares some some aesthetic similarities with iron, gold, and diamond blocks. These blocks don't tend to look good when you just build everything out of them, but they work fairly well for ornamentation and detail work. And that works best when you cannot add it or take it away without ruining the look.
Basically, only use it where it makes sense to use it, don't overuse it, and it won't hurt your eyes or clash with anything. It's not a primary building material, but it's not meant to be. And that's fine.
Those new blocks are indeed hard to work with, but I think that's the point. Their are really no complex texture in the vanilla game that super creative people can use to make elaborate patterns with.
To be constructive I think the new blocks weather useful in survival or not are going to be really shine for people who like to play creative, like myself. As being part of the building community, you soon realize that the limit of blocks you have to build with, which to be honest is extremely frustrating at times, I think this update will lead to a lot of new and awesome creations ^w^
Realistically, you don't have much to worry about since you aren't going to see many people using terracotta too often for the same reason you don't see people making houses out of something like gold blocks: it doesn't look good in large amounts and it's a hassle to get.
Most people recognize that it has very specific uses.
I feel you man. I am really disliked the terracotta. Textures are too busy in my opinion. Instead of adding sideways slab or stairs and slab for most block that many builders want. They add this.
Builder: we want more block *expect vertical slab*
Mojang: Yeah, let's add this busy 90's mozaik styled irrelevant block to minecraft!

Agreed 100%. The Terracotta is nice for some carpet patterns, but few actually look good.

Hopefully your correct, but the only design I see it used in is flooring. Hopefully we can see some designs in other builds, too.
