When I first saw them in an update video it just hurt my eyes. Some of them look cool but they hurt.
. Why didn't' they just clone some textures from chisel 2? and put them into the game? The carpets from there look much better than the ones here.
One of my biggest issues with the new blocks is that they could have added so many other things but yet they add these mostly out of place blocks that really are just weird. Some of you may think they're cool but I would rather of had so many other types of blocks added. I would love to see marble, additional stone bricks, complete block sets (Spruce ladders ect) that others have mentioned, and so many others that would fit naturally in the world. No they add these.
Because Mojang already gets enough crap for using ideas from mods. Besides, just don't use them. It's as simple as that.
So i'm not supposed to weigh in my opinion because some one says don't use them? No I want a block that all of us can use and like. These are just so ugly it makes me mad. I would have expected more designs that follow the feel of minecraft, even if they were wicked crazy in colors.
Blocks like that or even the carpets from chisel 2 (which I loved.) The current blocks look like poorly designed carpets and the concrete from what I can tell is just a solid color.
So i'm not supposed to weigh in my opinion because some one says don't use them? I didn't say that. No I want a block that all of us can use and like. Literally impossible. This is the internet, there will always be someone who doesn't like it. These are just so ugly it makes me mad. I would have expected more designs that follow the feel of minecraft, even if they were wicked crazy in colors.
Seriously Chisel 2 does (most of it) what i'm talking about
Awesome blocks http://i.imgur.com/kpvAGFS.pngThese are pictures of smooth blocks, not carpets, which is what you are talking about, or designs, which is the primary purpose of terracotta. You wouldn't replace pistons with airplanes because they're "better". If you want to replace something, it has to have the same purpose.
Blocks like that or even the carpets from chisel 2 (which I loved.) The current blocks look like poorly designed carpets They're supposed to be mosaic blocks, not carpet. and the concrete from what I can tell is just a solid color. Which allows a vibrant, true-color alternative to stained clay which, if you couldn't tell, is very bland and unsaturated, not to mention that the white is a peach color.
if it legitimately hurts your eyes looking at some bright blocks in a video game, just make a resource pack and fill it with alternative textures, that don't hurt. <<<< Absolutely. Just make it something that fits your idea of what they should be.
I personally love both the new blocks, and the new color palette. I gotta get used to the newly textured and very bright wool, but it's definitely an improvement to how they were before. Agreed. Unfortunately the wool messed up some builds' colors, but overall it's an improvement.

Guess what there are just as many people that don't like them. I don't hate all of the blocks i'm just saying most of them don't look good and they could have done better. The new current blocks look like they had no idea on what to add and just put some random in here.
This attitude of he doesn't agree with us so tell him to shut up needs to stop. For one thing my opinion isn't less than yours I can understand if people were complaining about a feature constantly without providing helpful feedback (Renamed the rose and SLIGHTLY changed the color, combat update.) Keep in mind i'm not even demanding a complete undo of the feature... just change it to something better.
Don't like it? Be quiet and don't use it some one else will love it.... wait what? What if I wanted to provide feedback and possibly get it changed better? I don't know, this is just what we do to anyone that has a different opinion, spam don't use it and hopefully the thread will die.
If you think i'm being too aggressive no i'm not. In almost all games there are people who give back information thats not 100% dev kissing that always get the "Then don't play" reply. Even early access games, the ones that need feedback. It needs to stop.
You like the blocks? good just say you do, why you think we're wrong and then leave until more replies. Don't say "Then just don't use it then." It's the laziest way people shut down other opinions. The time to get a change is now before the update hits.

They are currently limited by the fact the game can only have 8 more blocks before it hits the ID limit. Hold your horses until they break that limit and they may add more blocks.

The terracotta blocks look like horrible copies of the excellent Chisel carpet blocks.

They're already trying to raise the limit I heard.
It's like they pulled them from nowhere though. Just some completely arbitrary textures in an attempt to make them look good. It's like the team themselves is running out of ideas and scrambled for something. Thats the other thing that bothers me. I will be happy not complain about these blocks (still call some of them ugly) once others start getting added.
Tbh terracotta is good, just turn down your monitor brightness.
But the one major flaw of Minecraft is no option to disable combat cooldowns. I personally like 1.9 combat but many others don't so they should let you toggle it.
I didn't mean to offend you, but just because they add something does not mean they won't add other stuff you like. And as far as adding new stone, they tried that with andestite, diorite, and granite. People were happy at first, but after a little bit of initial hype people realized that not only did they not look that great, but they also added a new block that filled up valuable inventory space while mining (Remember those diamonds you found? Well they didn't go into your inventory because a single block of granite was in it's space) and was mainly just a nuisance especially when trying to create nice looking underground rooms without too much work. I'm not trying to shut you down or prevent your opinion, but as far as "the devs are out of ides" goes, of course they are. Its been SIX YEARS. That's an eternity in the gaming industry, and with such a huge modding community, there pretty much isn't anything that has not been added or modded. Not to mention that they have to stay in the realm of things that are "Minecrafty", or more of a medieval-fantasy style as opposed to the crazy tech mods like Thermal Expansion or GalactiCraft. I also don't understand why "don't use them" is such a terrible response. I am legitimately asking for a more detailed answer to this question. I do not understand how the terracotta could be any better for what it is trying to accomplish. Like i said, there needs to be a direct replacement that mimics or takes over the role of the terracotta for this to be a reasonable argument. I realize there is a huge number of people who disagree with these blocks, but it makes up less than a tenth of the total community, and even less are as strongly opposed to it as you are. Unlike the new wool palete, which affects already existing builds, or the combat update, there's nothing in the snapshot that you couldn't go your entire experience without using. Any pixel artists will tell you the concrete is a miracle foe making better looking builds without using the loud texture of wool.
And finally, the simplest, easiest, and best solution, just save us all some time and use a resource pack. I saw someone made more monochromatic versions of the terracotta that keeps the pattern but eliminates all the wacky colors. I don't have a direct link, but just peruse the reddit and you'll find it.

I agree. To a point.
I have been waiting for wood tools and accessories to be tree type color/texture specific. I would like slabs and stairs of already existing blocks. Specifically some older ones, it's time. Vertical slabs would be kinda cool, but whatever, not a need, or a personal want. There are other blocks and ores I think would fit in, and some maybe essential. There are some, I just do not like (granite).
However, I can wait. No big deal. This is basically a creators update, and is giving some of the creators of maps, pixel art, and various other things that they desperately need and want. Modern houses finally have patterned like mosaics. Pixel artists finally have some color options they didn't have and relied only on texture packs for. I can replace carpet with the new blocks in my builds, and it won't look as weird. There are many benefits to the community that people have never been heard until now have gotten.
You speak of people being lazy with their comments. It's lazy to complain and not do something about it. You can go out and make your own textures for these new blocks and for your liking. Take Andesite, and turn it into the marble you want. Take the granite and make it a new stone variant, since these spawn in stone. Change ID's and make your own blocks out of block you currently do not like. You can go in and take out things, or render your own object and add them if you're determined enough. Ask the resident Miner on these forums how he makes his stuff. Learn, do it.
Make a post like this again down the line if you want to "Improve" and give "feedback" with actual alternatives of your own and not out of chisel. Post screenshots. List what it takes to get it done, located, how it works. Make your own mod. Doing all this is when you'll get taken seriously. Don't just post it here. Post it everywhere minecraft related. Get feedback. Take criticism. Improve your idea.
Minecraft is a sandbox game. You can do with it, or make with it anything you want. Just saying it sucks isn't being productive either. It's a community, and not just about our own needs. Wait it out, or be the change my man. YOU CAN DO EEEEEEET

Oh, if you think those blocks hurt your eyes, try playing around with the textures in the Windows 95/98 Maze game/screensaver. Now THOSE will kill your vision!
...come to think of that, maybe that's why I like the new blocks: nostalgia.
(I'd just like to point out that, to be completely accurate, each of these images should be ANIMATED and constantly shifting, as you're moving past them through the maze. XD)

In my opinion those new "glazed" blocks doesn't seem to belong to the game. On the other hand, concrete blocks are well welcomed. It would be nice to have stairs and slabs of these blocks too.
It's hard to think on a good place to use those "carnival-like" blocks anyway.

Dude, I feel ya on the blocks and things we need,
Most Terracotta blocks look ugly. Big deal. As if granite and diorite looked good someday. It's a free update. Enjoy it... or not.
Or Mojang could simply make better looking ones in the first place.
Mojang can't just make "Prettier blocks". How a block looks is subjective. Just like all the other blocks.
My entire point in one post.
