Already blown away by the new blocks and also the new wool colors. Finally we have hard, smooth textured materials in bright, vibrant colors and even colored concrete powder that looks like sand.
The new terracotta stones are also looking awesome to me and you can make beautiful patterns with them; your view direction decides how the block is placed. Quite a puzzle sometimes, but it can make beautiful (accents for) floors, walls and ceilings when you know what you're doing.
If this snapshot is representative for the upcoming snapshots, then many dreams of many creativity builders are coming true.
Concrete: I honestly think this would help a lot of people in pixel art, and other builds like realistic stuff. These blocks are awesome because stained clay barely follows it's name. Rating for Concrete Blocks = 10/10. Good for builders like me!
New Wool Pallets: I have mixed feelings for these. They look awesome but the old ones looked awesome as well. Rating for new wool = 6/10. Some of the new ones look good but some of them are... strange.
New Banner Pallets: I don't see the difference and I really don't care. Rating for New Banner Pallets = 7/10.
New Sheep Pallets: The new sheep wool is nearly hard to notice for me but overall, I'm liking it! Rating for new Sheep Pallets = 9/10. Old ones are just a tad bit nice.
Inventory Saving: I'm not a fan of this. I sometimes play on creative realms and I'll see myself not liking it. You can't shift and hold space to fly at the same time anymore if you save an inventory. Rating for Inventory Saving = 2/10.
Terracotta Blocks: These look moderately nice, but I won't see myself using this especially in survival. Rating for Terracotta Blocks = 7/10. At least stained clay in mesas have a use if I want terracotta in survival (which I highly doubt I will).
Magma Block Fire: Nice little change. Rating = 10/10
Zombie Pigmen and Beds: Again, nice little change. Rating = 9/10
Painting Choosing: I thought they did this before, but maybe I'm wrong. Rating = 7/10. Good enough for decorators.
Dye-able Beds: This feature was requested so many times, but now they add it! So now I can dye my bed light green! Now I'm hoping that that banner designs can be applied to them. Rating = 10/10.
Parrots: Honestly, I'm so excited that they added another bird to Minecraft! Cookies have a better use, parrots imitate hostile mob sounds which sound funny ... but the two things I don't like is that you can't breed them, and jumping causes them to fly off of you. Rating = 8/10. Awesome, but could be better.
Advancements: I have mixed feelings for these: I like it but miss the achievements. But what really caught my mind was that you can make custom ones and custom rewards, which, of course, I'll try to do fair rewards on my survival world. Rating = 6/10. I love these now but the achievements are a good memory in my heart.
Crafting Book: I haven't learned the quirks of this thing completely, so I'll get back to you in a second.
Pillager Mob: I really think there's going to be a pirate mob yet Dinnerbone says it won't. Maybe there'll be a pirate ship structure filled with pillagers (pirate villagers) and their treasure is gold. There'll also be parrots and a captain! What are your opinions? Pumped for a new illager!
I will edit this when all of the 1.12 features are out so I can give my opinions on them.
I can see myself using the pattern terracotta blocks a lot. The cyan one is a bit annoying, however. As the creeper face on it doesn't attach to neighboring blocks in any way. It definitely has its uses, though!
One thing I don't like however is you need to put the powder into water then get the concrete manually by mining them one by one in the water. Make sure you have depth strider for that!
Hey, a crafting recipe that uses gravel.... *looks at gravel in chest*
The new blocks are... Hypnotic. All the little details added to them make them a lot more complex than they appear to be. There are so many pattern combinations and it's beautiful.
I had to stop though because all that spinning around to get blocks placed correctly makes me a bit too dizzy. They're a bit hard to properly position and that'd probably be my only complaint. I do love that we also have more colorful blocks. Concrete is wonderful as it's basically just as bright as wool but without the awkward wooly texture/feel. Basically what I wanted stained clay to be.
Hotbar switching is nice, too. Sometimes you just have too many different blocks to fit in one bar so its nice to swap through the items quickly. I feel I'll tend to type the wrong number constantly though and mess it up.
I am especially thankful for the terracotta blocks, though. On a more personal level, at least. They remind me of a lot of memories when I was younger, so of course I'll instantly be biased towards them and love them. They really were wonderfully designed. You could tell lots of care went into their textures.
Just pillar up with the powder, splash a water bucket on top, so that the water streams along the sides (the water only has to touch the block), pick the water up with the bucket and mine down. No depth strider needed for that.
I don't like the new palette for wool, personally, but there's always resource packs. I think the concrete is pretty exciting, as is having colored gravity blocks. The ceramic tiles look like they could be fun, but I'm not sure how much I'll use them -- I wish they had some that were more muted colors.
I continue to be frustrated by the fact they're not adding slabs/stairs for some common blocks that really need them, like prismarine bricks and red nether bricks.
The gray concrete blocks are amazing for roadways. The Terracotta is nice, but the fact it's called Glazed Terracotta seems to imply a generic variant will get added TBH.
I love the terracotta for easy floor mosaics. My favorite part, however, has got to be in Captainsparklez's video when he noticed the cyan "pattern" and immediately destroyed it. I guess he did nazi that coming. I'll see myself out.

The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird would be able to cross the entire Minecraft world in just shy of 17 hours.
I continue to be frustrated by the fact they're not adding slabs/stairs for some common blocks that really need them, like prismarine bricks and red nether bricks.
There's only 8 block ID's left in the game so that's not really something they can do ATM.
I like all of the new blocks so far. The terracotta blocks are a bit overwhelming at first, but I think in time I will get used to it eventually, plus, I love the patterns they make.
I think it is called so, because it is crafted by baking stained hardened clay. Baking blue hardened clay makes blue glazed terracotta, etc. So the stained hardened clay is basically the normal terracotta, where the furnace puts the glazing on it.
Quite a simple representation of the real procedure of glazing indeed, but so is every crafting recipe or procedure in Minecraft.
This is correct.

for architectural ornaments and facings, structural units, pottery, and
as a material for sculpture."

I love anything that enriches the design potential of builds, and if I had any complaint, it would be PLEASE for the love of Pete, more slabs and stairs!!!
Well, you guys want my advice? Here it is. Honestly, Minecraft is getting worse. Why? This is a popular reason why minecraft is getting less loved. Because of the 1.9 PvP. Please, I would love that minecraft bring back old PvP of 1.8 or 1.7. I am still playing in 1.8, and I might play it forever until you bring back 1.8 PvP. I love all other things that you add, but I don't play new version because of the pvp.
