Looks like I missed a lot. Mojang always seems to do something awesome come October, update wise. A totem of undying? A new dungeon with 3 special mobs for it? A backpack equivalent?
Honestly this might be what gets me back into Minecraft again. New "Human" mob? Mansions in the middle of the woods? Sign me up.
The curses also add some potential to self imposed challenges and adventure maps. You could make a command block system that forces Vanishing onto your tools, making dying that much more painful. Or curse everything with Binding so you really have to think about what you pick up.
The Shulker Boxes seem to be the backpack we've wanted for so long, and it's good that it's an end game item. It keeps you from cheesing the entire game with a hilariously large inventory thanks to backpacks.
Only things I don't like are the Totem of Undying, since it could be abused badly in multiplayer, and Treasure Maps, since they might take the fun out of finding structures.
I was a bit hesitant to post this, worrying that people would have some problem with it or because somebody could make all my work obsolete with their own post, but now here it is, and with a bit of work left out. So, here's all the Minecraft screenshots I took at the crack of dawn with great difficulty this morning, but without the yet-another-laborious-step of me adding descriptions to a Minecraft Forums post. For now, here's just the pictures:

So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...
There aren't many details about the ocean location for treasure maps...are they in yet?
I'm also wonder if these treasure map locations don't actually generate unless you're holding a treasure map to 'find' them?

This was our first MineCon and I have to say that it was just as much an experience I will a ways remember, as well as my 8 year old grandson!
I was reading through some of the comments and one personeasked about the treasure maps.. if they will only generate a woodland mansion etc if your holding a map.. that is not the case... they are already in the world.. the map just helps you find them

the curse of binding, once equipped can not be un-equipped, not even if you die/kill yourself. the only way to rid yourself of it is to use it until the durability goes to zero.
*on a funny note if you happen to enchant it with mending it will NEVER go away

only if /keepInventory true is commanded will the item drop, otherwise, the item will stay with you unti lthe durability has run out...and Never before that unless the above command is engaged.. im sure there is a replay somewhere of the live stream...like on youtube.. he clearly says that even killing yourself will not get rid of the item...you have to wear the durability out of it to get rid of it..
we were there and watched it entirely, and I am 100 % sure of this .. if I can I will post the audio. I don't have video, my vid camera died...

It's actually the other way around: when keepInventory is false (default) all items drop (with the exception of items with the vanishing curse); when true - all items stay in the inventory.

shulker boxes can be dyed, i went into the snapshot in creative mode, searched shulker and diff colored shulker boxes popped up, but i tried crafting it myself using 2 methods, adding dye while still in the base craft but that didnt let the box be combined, and 2 combining dye and the box itself, it combined but the extra color was not added, i used an ink sac for the dye, and searching for those mansions is a pain.....very painfull, started at a village that i got a map in and i went thousands of blocks going southeast since i was northwest of the map...didnt find it yet, so...rare is right
AMAZING!!!! Found a Cartographer,(white robe) (but I had to /summon on the treasure map) and really it wasn't that far away.. found the woodland mansion. IF YOU DONT WANT SPOILERS DONT READ ON....

THERE ARE 2 DIFFERENT VILLAGER LOOKING MOBS, ONE HAS EMERALD DROPS AND HTE OTHER WHO WEARS a robe with a gold trim, drops the totem of undying. I found 2 of those and each time I killed each I was given the totem...
the other mobs are horrid! hiding behind corners is your biggest help.. they aren't really powerful, if you have decent gear, but they can lock onto you from far more than 16 blocks...
the 2 villager ones (one wears a grayish top and pants, very professional looking (vindicator), and the other a robe lined with gold trim.(evoker)That
then summons flying one, and then the one who snakes around the room coming up thru floors (NAME?) and such , the flying one(vex) can just like poof vanish to (maybe teleporting) but omg this is fun!
but anyways back to the mansion... wow, the first floor has rooms that have water and a tree one has a garden, and weirdly.. 1 room had a full on cat built from colored wool.. then upstairs I found 2 more room sized cats and a room sized chicken.
there are 2 libraries (books for days girls!!!0 there are bedrooms, meeting rooms, dining halls.. really cool... im off to got o the third floor now..

This is shaping up to be pretty sweet.
Figured it was time for a change.
This looks like a pretty fun update. Wish they had done more with exploring / world gen but it's always nice to see new features.

the curse of binding, once equipped can not be un-equipped, not even if you die/kill yourself. the only way to rid yourself of it is to use it until the durability goes to zero.

Yeah they did.
Not sure really if these curses have much application in survival, but definitely map making.
The vanishing curse can be useful in pvp servers if you don't want people taking your stuff when you die.
