I feel like some of your guys are forgetting that "Good" and "Bad" are mostly relative, and also they can't just be considered "better" or "worse" just off of just one concept like:
1.9 is more realistic but doesn't mean it makes the game "Better" or more "enjoyable"
1.8 is a bit more fast-paced but doesn't make it "Better" or more "enjoyable"
Having a huge argument over this by stating opinions alone isn't going to solve anything really. It really depends on which one you like more
I personally like 1.8 pvp in every single way more but I don't see how it automatically makes it considered the "Better" update for pvp.
They both have their ups and downs but let's be honest, their is no real better one and their is no worse one either.
Although not saying you can't have your own opinion of course.
I personally believe the axes in 1.9+ should be nerfed, but only a small amount.
It doesn't make much sense to me that wood axes, which you can get within the first 5 minutes, are essentially as good as iron swords with a slightly slower swing time.
My opinion is that 1.9+ combat is an improvement over 1.8-, but that's just my opinion.
it just isnt minecraft......its slow and restrictive
Well, thats kind of wrong
Because Minecraft is not just a building game or something like that, its more of a "sandbox survival rpg-inspired exploration" game
I actually thought that the combat changes actually make the game far more interesting. I found the 1.8- combat (and Minecraft in general) very boring. Now the game can actually be hard. Fighting isn't just a matter of "who can click the fastest", but those who can out think his opponent.

I play Xbox 360 Edition Minecraft but I've heard a lot about the new combat system and I don't like it. It'll slow fights down and almost everything will be based on who hits first and who can RUN AWAY quickest when the main objective of fighting is strategy and attacking but now you get less of the two major things and add in something irrelevant. I really think the shield is unnecessary and annoying since it's too strong and the blocking with the sword thing makes it more possible to win the battles with other players. The Elytra. I do like the older versions of Minecraft but the Elytra is actually fun to fly around with! I think an easy but not a super technologically advanced way to travel by air was a pretty cool way to make Minecraft better.
The combat changes are great. Nearly every naysayer dislikes it because "I suck at it so it's horrible".
Pretty much haha! they're not good at it so they say it sucks rather than actually try and practice and give it a chance, plus it makes it require more skill to fight, rather than just whoever has the best ping and can click the fastest will always be the winner, now with this it's flops that on it's head and makes you require strategy, and people are butthurt over that because they'd rather just spam click.
I absolutely ADORE the new combat system, i think it was a well needed change and probably the best so far!
it adds more of a strategic aspect to battle rather than just how tryhards want with having the best ping and being able to click super fast, you actually have to time your attacks right, play your cards right, know when to heal and not to, shields for blocking an attack, and so on, and armor being nerfed now you actually have a chance against a guy in chain, iron, or diamond, where as before, if you were undergeared versus someone in better gear, you were almost always guaranteed dead, might as well did your own grave and hop in! but now, now it's different, if you play your cards right, you can take down a more geared players better if you time your attacks right and heal at the right times, plus i think it's a good spin now that there's more than one weapon, the sword and the axe, the sword being faster but weaker, and the axe being stronger, but slower, causing for much needed accuracy or it could be a great penalty if you miss your shot, also with the sweeping edge to knock some people on the sides back coming at you dealing knockback to the players close to the front running player.
and so much more, it levels the playing field and makes the combat more strategic rather than just about how fast you can click.
The only people who hate it are the ones who suck at it usually, and they just want to spam click.

You've got to be an idiot if you actually think 1.9 PvP requires you to literally run away from your enemy every two seconds. massive exaggeration. imo, 1.9 PvP is a change for the better.
1.9 was the beginning of a series of horrible updates.

Why would mojang make the combat strategic? minecraft is a survival game, not a pvp game. Minecraft is a simple. So why do we need complicated weapon cooldown and shield blocking and outsmarting enemies. Spam clicking? strafing? sure it's not "realistic", but it's minecraft. It meant to be simple. If you want combat to be realistic then can you tell me why only certain block obeys the gravity. Minecraft is simple, not complicated. This is why i hated the new combat system.

I'm going to quote myself from another thread altogether.
Minecraft's challenge comes from the player's choices. If they make a bad choice, they get a bad result. If they make a good choice, they get a good result. The environment can be manipulated to such a degree that most of the randomness in the game can be made trivial by the choices that the players make. And the rest is rare enough that it has little to no affect on how one plays.
It therefore makes sense to make combat strategic, in order to make the choice more difficult. In 1.8, mobs were like vending machines. When you got an iron sword, combat became mini-games like "click three times to win." There was no chance at failure. You didn't have to make a decision one way or another, you just killed the minor annoyance and moved on.
Now, you have to make an actual decision, and actually plan what you're doing, even if only on a basic level.

I personally agree with this. Minecraft was originally a building game with a touch of survival. It has now become a survival game with a touch of building xd
Indifferent to them. They can get annoying when fighting mobs, not sure how it is in PVP though.
Good, get over it, things change
I love the 1.9 combat.

Help the Villagers to get jobs!
How to beat mobs at night:
1. Learn how the mobs behave
2. Use both hands
3. Have at least Iron Armor better
4. Do at least use Iron Sword or better
5. Hide in the bushes to suprise them
6. The mobs don't know whats behind them
im pretty sure it is minecraft 007kingifrit

i can't speak for PvP but PvE it sucks .
Anything lower then sharpness 5 on a diamond sword is a waste since for the average mob it always take 3 normal hits no matter what.
Its been a year now, get over it.
