I am trying to make a custom mob for a map but, there is a bug in the new snapshot with custom spawners! they either don't ever spawn anything, or they spawn one mob and then turn into a pig spawner! So annoying
I think I found the bug. I was using command blocks to give me a spawner that had a BlockEntityTag. Then I could just place my custom spawners wherever I wanted. But, I noticed that when I placed it, for a split second it was a pig spawner before it changed into my custom mob. When I used NBTEdit to look at the spawner I noticed that in the "SpawnPotentials" it said the entityid was a pig. I don't know if there is a way to fix this, other than using NBTEdit to delete the SpawnPotentials for every spawner.
Another thing I'm noticing, (I think its just a bug) is that it take the spawners a long time to spawn any hostile mobs. Even if the delay is set to a low number. I suspect that will get fixed in the future though.
The first link talks about the same behavior im experiencing when I setblock a spawner. When I /give a spawner and place it, it turns into a pig after the first spawn. But that is do to a bug with it reading spawn data after it reads spawn potentials. It's rather easy to fix I find.
Nope the issue remains in my game. Made a new world in 1.9 tried to get a Zombie Spawner and it becam a pig spawner. Tried it with McEdit too. After loging in again, it became a pig spawner too.

The closest thing I can see on the bug reports is this report:
https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-75938
If you think this is related to your observations then I encourage you to add some feedback of your own onto that report.
I did see some other bug reports for issues related to spawners so they are having issues. For example this report:

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

The solution came out with the full release of 1.9 last week. Not sure about custom spawners, although the regular ones are fixed.
Make sure you're using the updated syntax due to strict JSON being enforced.
