Because most of people that play MC find it kinda useless
I think it's a cool feature and makes your MC gameplay better
They weren't a finalised feature, they were more so a prototype saying "Look what we've added!". It's showing off the shading pipeline and showing off what you can do with it. See my last reply for a more detailed run down.
As Kingstonian said, most people dont have a use for it. I mess around with it for my videos but other than that, its just distracting.

Since 1.7, I use super secret settings a lot. They make the game more graphically amazing other than texture packs.
But then when I saw what are 1.9's upcoming features, it says that Super secret settings would be removed.
Why is that the case?
The Super Secret Settings weren't a final feature, they were more so a prototype saying "Look what we've done!". As already stated, the shading pipeline isn't being removed, just the Super Secret Settings button and likely the shader loading system in use currently are being pulled and refined to work as an actual feature. Moving to shaders is one step towards making the game run better, they can't exactly pull it out at the last second and revert to the old renderer when a lot of systems saw a double or even triple increase in framerate.

I hope they add a command to automatically set shaders for different players. This would be awesome for maps. Just imagine, for example, trying to do a parkour course with your shader constantly switching trying to mess you up, or perhaps an adventure map which uses a shader to make it more gloomy or atmospheric when you entered a dungeon.
Shaders are client-sided, so they will always be unique to the player. As for dynamic toggling of specific shaders, could be applicable, not 100% sure.

When you would click super secret settings it became really hard to reset it. So I'm glad they're removing/redoing it.
Spears, Daggers, and Hammers for 1.9
FYI you could press F4 to reset the shaders back to null, or no shader.
