So recently I reset my computer. A few weeks later I wanted to redownload minecraft, only to find out i need "parent's permission"
So I email myself.
When I click on the bottom link in the email, it says something about "COPPA" and how I need to give all of my personal info and pay 10 cents to proceed.
Now yes 10 cents isn't that much but it's still unnecessary to charge money just so I can redownload minecraft! (Happens with trying to join a realms server too) Plus, it adds up. What if I drop my computer? What if the GPU fails? What if I get ANOTHER virus? I will need to go through that annoying thing again. Granted I found a link that takes me straight to the download, but still. And just putting minecraft on a USB and transferring it won't work because it's considered piracy and won't let me play on servers!
Herb_ is correct. In order to comply with US law, they have to verify your age or that an adult has given permission for you to use MC before you can use it. They explain why they do it within the linked post. They have to verify permission to comply with US law. The fastest way and most common way is the credit card charge. They have an alternative consent form you can request if you can't or don't want to do the charge.
After permission is granted, they set a flag on your account to verified and will not ask again. It happened solely because you had to re-download after the purchase of Mojang by Microsoft.

Alternatively, you could grab a direct link for the launcher's download and play with your account normally. However, you would not be able to change your skin, name or other variables without doing such a verification.
You do not need an account to download, and the launcher will not ask for verification to play.
Edit: Putting Minecraft on a flash drive is not piracy. You will not be able to play it without a paid account anyway, unless you are authenticated at least once with the Yggdrasil servers, on that computer and account.
See, I have a verified mojang account and everything.
It's not like I don't have an account.
I downloaded minecraft just before microsoft got mojang.
Exactly. You got an account when it was just Mojang and they didn't have to comply with COPPA, then MS bought it and does have to comply. Since the account was not verified before Mojang was purchased, now it has to be verified.

so i have to give them money if i want to play online?
I mean i can change my skin and i'm logged in on the launcher
Still leaves him with 90% of the money, for just one week. It's not like you have to pay 10 cents every time you log into the launcher.
ShelLuser is joking, though. I thought about joking about buying fewer gumballs or whatever, but I realized I didn't know what Kids These Days could even buy on a dollar a week allowance... figured it's better to let ShelLuser's joke stand on its own.

I mean COME ON!
Does anyone else think that this is stupid?
Patiently waiting to get banned...
Before I do get banned, it is still unnecessary to charge money to get back into a mojang account.
It's not like I go out handing my personal info to everyone I meet.
EDIT: Oh right, since I'm under 13, I'm automatically autistic. Okay. I apologize.
And you're absolutely sure you downloaded the launcher from the official Minecraft website?
This account is now inactive, and I won't be checking private messages. If you need to contact me, send me an e-mail at [email protected] instead.
Yes, I am sure I downloaded from the official website.
They don't give any explanation as to why they charge money, they just say "It's common to do that" and "We have to."
Still needing answers here.

Here is the direct link from the official website: https://launcher.mojang.com/download/MinecraftInstaller.msi

I assume you only have to verify an account once.
Which kind of makes complaining about a one-time charge of ten cents kind of funny.
