My first post, so I'm deciding to make it a good one.
Around every alley in Minecraft, you'll find a bunch of people claiming that it's no longer a good game. Many think it's the updates, or the servers, or the mass amounts of kids and online daters. I mean, of course it's not what it used to be, but that doesn't mean we should constantly keep weighing it down.
In my opinion, I believe that Minecraft is one of the best games ever. Not from its structure, but from how many memories it can bring back. But, it's just become indefinitely cumbersome from all of the annoying children, griefers, and hackers that join. Heck, it's hard NOT to find any kids on a server. However, I think it can be made great again. That being said, it'd probably require a lot of efforts, like:
1. Getting some really good anti-hack and anti-grief plugins
2. Making every build like it's a first one ("making it with love")
3. Treating everyone as a friend.
I believe that this can be achieved, and that's my goal mostly for my server. Minecraft nostalgia should be cherished. Therefore, I shall start a poll.
How many of you believe Minecraft is horrible now, or how many believe it's still good? Choose wisely.

I just wish it hadn't been sold to the devil (Microsoft) otherwise I think we would have an even better game than we do presently.
I wish people would quit saying that Microsoft is ruining Minecraft. They are not. They have absolutely nothing to do with the development. If anything, it's actually a good thing that Microsoft now owns Mojang. Microsoft can improve on things like better-protected servers, and they if anything were ever to happen to Mojang (bankrupt etc.) Microsoft could either prevent it, or bail them out.
It only took me a split second to come to a decision on the poll. No, it's not good, here's why. I started playing MineCraft during the Beta phase, so what it was at that time was acceptable considering it's then status. However, now there's a severe lack of content when it could be so much more and it's not a beta release anymore so it's completely unacceptable on Mojang's part. There should be way more to do in the core game now, not the same thing it's been at since the beta with only a couple additions after a couple years. The majority of the community shouldn't have to look towards amateur programmers for content to improve the game like they do.
As for some of your points, OP. I also disagree. Griefing and PvP is a part of the game, it's not at all okay to force everyone to adhere to your way of playing the game.

I believe some of the repercussions might come from those who've played Halo.
That said, people really should know that it's part of the contract for Microsoft to leave Mojang be.
I believe Minecraft being sold to Mojang may be troubling to some, but I also believe Notch was within his reason to do so. You can't blame him for not being able to handle one of the most demanded sandbox games ever.

I don't keep track of it, but I have probably sunk more time into Minecraft than I did into any other game. it should easily be 1000+ hours of gameplay. All Vanilla, the only mod I use is Optifine.
Minecraft doesn't have a lack of content. the only restraint is what you can think of doing with the content presented to you.
I do use mods, but I also use vanilla sometimes just because. I also don't think I've sunk quite 1000 hours into the game yet, but who knows? I don't keep track either. Other than that though, this is me as well. I mean, I even said something along those lines in my signature.

I hope someday there's more magic in Minecraft, though I know it's not likely to happen. In the meantime, I play modded a lot. I enjoy a lot of other games too, so don't expect me to be on the forums all the time.
The game is still good. It's highly unlikely a game that started great will become awful. It's one of the games I really wanted so I was stoked to finally get it in 2013. The content updates may have become bland and the community near nonexistent but I still have faith in Mojang.
MS has two and a half billion reasons to make sure MC doesn't fail. And they haven't touched the java version- they've left Jeb alone to do his thing. The only thing MS did have had a hand in is the development of Win10 and the mass updating of PE. I've got to hand it to MS for taking a "hands off" attitude with MC. It could be a lot worse!
MC is still a good game- it's the community as a whole that's changed. (Roblox has ended up the same way- good game, lousy community). MC isn't "respected" anymore. It's too easy to play, so the kids have taken over... and they don't respect anything.

I've only played since 1.7 but IMO it is a fantastic game, and I've logged an incalculable amount of hours on it, easily over 4,000 hours. (I base it on time spent in Dark Souls games, since it tracks number of hours played) I think the most important thing to having fun in MC is knowing what it is you enjoy. Big servers, small servers, private server, creative builds, tech builds, playing the 1 mod on a server that no one else plays, etc.
I'm not advocating that Minecrat sucks. Just pointing out that logic. I don't think Minecraft has in any way declined. Perhaps it has lost some of its first players, or ones who "liked it before it was cool". Minecraft is a game that is only limited to what the player can create (or play what others made). Minecraft is a game in which the player can do anything. There is so much player-created content (maps, in particular) that one could never get bored, seeing if it's their thing. The game is not declining. Just because Minecraft is dead to the individual does not mean it is dead to the rest of us.
Well, it is as the internet says, haters will hate, although what I have found is that there are actually a decent amount of haters who aren't actually haters of the game, but rather put a facade on to make them seem like they hate it. This is probably due to them not wanting to be embarrassed in front of others because for some reason minecraft is seen as a REALLY childish game, one where only toddlers play. I'm not entirely sure where this notion has come from, but as far as the people within the community who say they started to hate the game are just people who reject change, which is fine, but I feel people need to understand that a perk of minecraft is that you are not forced to updated to the latest version. Just play what ever version suits your fancy.
Minecraft, for me, will always have a place in my heart because it has done so much for me.

Minecraft, childish? Psshhhh, unless toddlers are building up to 16-bit and occasionally higher computers in their off time nowadays that's ridiculous. Just read my sig, it's a game of infinite potential. The only way to truly ruin it would be to take that potential away, which would mean doing a ton of stuff Mojang knows better than to do.

Agreed. The line between mod and vanilla is becoming smaller and smaller- what with things like Pokemon Cobalt and Amethyst.

I meant a stand-alone game, not a franchise.
Unless the change sucks.
