Can i use a resource pack on other versions other than the version intended for it? I wanted to use a resource pack in 1.7.10 but the intended version for that resource pack is 1.8. Is it possible to do that?
any problems? yes. for example a slot was added to the enchantment table (for lapis). if you use a resource pack from the old version and the pack reskins the enchantment dialog, you will use two slots, but visually, you'll only see one in the middle of them. (or vice versa if you want a 1.8 pack on 1.7) also for other changes (shield added, blaze powder slot, etc...)
if you insist on certain pack, delete the dialog picture from the resource pack archive, and you'll see the default one (or one from a backup pack if you have more in the list).
I don't think use can use the newer resource packs for too old of versions because the resource pack structure did not exist in those versions. You would need to find a texture pack for those versions.

Thanks too for the reply, i'll keep that in mind and i'll just keep searching for the version 1.7.10. Also i'll have to try if the texture packs are compatible for 1.7.10.

that should work. A problem I experienced already when making a TP is that every now and then the names of the files are changed. A 1.8 PVP Texture Pack will never work for 1.19 and also not the other way round because the file names and directories changed in between.
To your original question: I´m not sure. A lot changed from 1.7 to 1.8, probably also file names and locations, so, I can´t tel

I think you can do that.
Keep in mind that never use older version resourcepack for newer versions otherwise the game may have some currupted textures.
is it possible, yes.

Thank you for the reply, but the resource pack is just going to shade blocks. But anyways i'll keep that in mind

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
