Personally i really hate the combat features in 1.9 but i want to know what everyone else thinks so how do you all feel about the combat changes in 1.9? This is only about the combat changes, i like the new changes to the end and the harder dragon fight but the combat changes ruin the whole update for me.
I think 1.9 pvp adds much more complexity and room for creativity, which will inevitably yield new combat strategies and thus make the gamemode more interesting.
To me the combat is very boring, instead of killing something fast u have to hit it once, run away wait for ur sword to "recharge" then attack again and do it over again. There will be no dealing with large groups of enemies anymore even with the swipe attack. And it ruins PVP. every fight will be so slow.
The combat in 1.9 is different. For some people that automatically means bad. Some are bringing legitimate complaints so don't get me wrong. I personally like the new combat, especially being one who has a very slow computer and couldn't participate in PvP without getting killed immediately. I think it is more fair, but all of this is my humble opinion of course and is not fact.

This is a misconception.
You don't have to do this, and you don't have to wait for your recharge to go all the way. No fights will be slower than before, just less mouse buttons being smashed, which wasn't as effective as you all thought it was (Invincibility frames, most CPS you ever needed was 2). The meter gives you variety. Instead of smashing as fast as physically possible, you change how fast you attack depending on your situation.
Do you recharge all the way? (slow) Half way? (Medium) or minimal to get everyone off of you for a sec? (Fast).
Attacking fast is good for crowd control until you're in a comfortable area to deal max damage again, if the sweep attack doesn't do enough on it's own.
Attacking medium is good because it's still very effective, and keeps the pace of what before was, so as long as you are able to time your attacks along with the invincibility frames (Technically the same as pre-1.9 combos, which still exist).
Attacking fast is very good when using a mix of that and the sweep attack for when you're in a big mess, and need to keep them off your back, as knockback isn't affected by the meter, therefor still leaving crowd control a viable option while still keeping the fact that diamond god/desses no longer are a thing now.
Attacking and walking back is still a strategy, too, I guess. Just try not to look at something one way and assume it's the only way to play, especially in sand-boxes. The attack meter brought more than slower attack speed. It brought variety.
OT: I love almost everything about the update. Kinda sad lingering potions aren't exactly better than, say, splash potions. They were just underwhelming in general, but still cool in a map-maker context. Also not liking the new saturation = rapid healing thing. Other than that, I absolutely adore this update. The new attack meter, from skeleton AI, to a completely ravamped End dimension really makes this an amazing update.

Everyone is saying "spam-clicking" requires no skill, but tbh I don't think that's true in fact 1.9 is the one that doesn't require skill in my opinion. reasons:
-Wood Axe does 7 damage... (3 hit kill) (same as diamond sword.) It might not have the same dps or same hit speed as a diamond sword but it does do same per hit. Just think about this for a moment... A wood axe? Imagine you are on survival games you just got yourself a diamond sword and a noob comes up behind you with a wood axe and hits you.. Boom! 2 more hits til death, and you might be thinking in your mind that you'd quickly turn around and hit him with the diamond sword and even it up quickly but in reality that doesn't happen. The noob would hit you and then run away (due to their being cooldown times.) then attack then run... etc until your dead.
-Cool down times... This for some reason what all of the noobs are worshiping for some reason as if they haven't gone on 1.9 themselves. This might sound "Great and realistic" (I thought the same til I tried it.) I'm going to use this analogy cause for some reason alot of nubs don't get this.... 1.9 cooldowns will without a doubt slow down fights... (It's true face it... you know it and I know it.) so due to you knowing that fights are going to be slower in 1.9 I'm going to ask you a question what requires more skill to fight in slowness 10? or Speed 10? (let's pretend the whoever your fighting has chose the same option as you doesn't have a bow.) if you said Speed 10 you are correct. if you said slowness, then you should probably go call a doctor... my point is that you require more skill for the faster you fight. The other problem I have for Cool down times (Stated above) is that when someone attacks you (Depending on the person) they'll run away until their cool down is done and then turn around and attack again this'll go on until your dead.. also because of this fights will pretty much always depend on who gets the first hit.... it's true guys don't reject this. Now if your fighting a noob then you could probably kill them. but chances are most players you fight will be of near equal skill so most of your fights will depend on who gets the first hit. You might be thinking in your mind "That's not true I'll just.." Run-away until you heal?... Exactly.
-Shields.... I really don't like this. Some may like this and I would actually agree with you on this.. I like the idea of shields but the way that minecraft implemented this is just... not the best.... They are alot more op than I imagined and make you nearly invincible when fighting those without shields... You might still be able to kill someone that has a shield on them but in most cases.. you wouldn't stand a chance.. Some people like op pvp but in my opinion I'm not a fan of it some people might like it but I've never been a fan of op pvp (it's where you have a stack of god apples and prot 4 armor vs others.) shields will definitely fuel servers like these.
-Elytra... If you thought I was going to hate on this you're wrong. Most of the people that you think are "against 1.9" don't have a problem with it except for the combat part... We aren't against updates we just like the ones that add stuff that will add a positive to the game overall. I feel like Elytra can be used to travel across the map fast. (I will definitely be using this as a hanglider with a hanglider texture on my "The Walking Dead" server.) Plus I feel like someone will make some cool gamemode involving pvp while flying or so. (A pretty neat idea) it'll be a fast (Faster requires more skill as stated above.) and fun gamemode to play... This is good...
This is about all I am going to talk about for today but the main point is that 1.9 does not require more skill and it mostly depends on how you like to pvp. to me I don't like the whole dual wielding or the op axes, cool downs and shields but if it's your cup of tea I'm fine with that.
It saddens me so many people like them. Probably the same people who spend $1000 on P2W cellphone games.
Well, I'm glad we got a new insult. Much different than "Nub scrubs that cant pvp n suk cuz 2 cps"
But, honestly, you can't really call someone out unless you know for fact that the majority against 1.9 indeed does enjoy the pay2win concept. (I hate it, so count me out of that). I understand if you dislike the update, but there's no reason to throw out slurs towards those who like it. (Like me.)
I've only been playing for a few minutes, but I am seriously hating this. Am I going to get knocked back EVERY SINGLE TIME a zombie hits me? It is profoundly tedious to have to keep running back to it just to hit it back. Skeleton knockback always was too powerful for my taste. This is just not fun.

I like the update,
and if I see a skeleton, I use hes dumby thing and make it go into the light as it can not see the light, and I also try to make it hit the zombies too

The new 1.9 pvp is a better skills than *click click click click* and not to mention everyone is not a fast clickers.
The new 1.9 pvp is a better skills than *click click click click* and not to mention everyone is not a fast clickers.
Old combat required the ability to strafe, while still sprinting, and landing every possible hit. If you wanted to win fights, you had to be able to play at a very high speed. Fast clicking is what makes you good at computer games.
I've yet to be able to experience the new update in multiplayer pvp, as the server I play on does not update for a few more days. But, my thinking is, how are you going to tell me that fights are better if I can use a healing potion between every swing?
Maybe this new combat is in fact better. But I immediately ignore the comments of those who say old combat was easy and just *click click click*. If you've ever played on an actual PvP server, you would know this is false. My feeling is that the people who say this simply are not good at combat, and so they dislike it. Maybe I am wrong, but these are my thoughts.

Definitely good, they might seem bad at first, all big changes seem bad at first, but they should make combat more challenging and fair.

The ones complaining the most are the ones who can't adapt to change very well, I think.

There doesn't seem to be any indicator for the "recharge", and that's reeeally annoying.

For much people, the combat update are bad because they like the fast things, use jitterclick or maybe because they are cheating/hacking.
At first, I think this update was bad, but wen I play the 1.9 i liked!!!
I think mojang says us: Hey! Stop spamming clicks, use more the head sons of the gun!
hahahaha, the different aren't bad man, if you think the 1.9 is bad, play in 1.8 and no more problem
PS: Sorry if my english is too bad.

could you please name a popular computer game where fast clicking is a thing?
