Before you tell me people are buying it, I know.
Before you tell me I've done this topic before, I know.
Before you call me dumb for writing this, I'm not.
Minecraft is dying, and there is no reason to deny it anymore. Now, I know people are going to try to use the 'It's not dying, more people are buying it' card, that doesn't mean anything.
Lets use Target as an example. Years ago, target was extremely popular but it has long since lost it's popularity due to a cyberattack. People still go there, but not as many compared to Walmart or what have you. Sound familiar? Minecraft has had multiple cyberattacks. Mojang isn't really to blame, as those are hard to stop, but they do happen. Look at the YouTubers. They got the game popular. Mindcrack? Falling apart. Etho and Doc have let the group to play on Hermitcraft, which still has interest in the game. Chimneyswift. Stuck at 1.8 million subscribers for over a year. Antvenom. Stuck at 2.2-2.3 million for almost a year as well. Sky is still around 10/11 million. Lets look at Markiplier. He's been doing all sorts of games, and has grown to 8 million, and he was at 7 and 6 just a few months ago. He's growing so much faster than anyone could've thought.
Here's another thing. Updates. And not those tiny little 'security updates' which gives modders like the Optifine guy a migraine which the tiny changes to code. The big ones. 1.4. 1.5. Those two updates, with 1.5 being my favorite, were mere months apart. Mojang managed to do the same with 1.6 and 1.7, but we saw the bottom of the barrel with those. Now fast forward to 1.8. The 1.8 update came out 11 MONTHS LATER. ELEVEN. From maybe 4-6 to almost double. And here we see it again. September was the last huge update. It's July again. 2 months from September. And we finally get an update? NO! A SNAPSHOT THAT HAS NO RELEASE DATE AS OF NOW. Basically a prerelease.
I know that Microsoft bought Mojang, and before you tell me they're why Minecraft is going down this hill, they're not. And no, I'm not saying this because I have an Xbox One. I'm saying this because they wanted Mojang to update the port on the Xbox. And can you blame him? Almost, I think, a year between updates. But Mojang is smart, they sold themselves before no one wanted to buy the game from them.
I've given enough evidence as to why Minecraft is dying, If you see a reason it's not other than 'people still buy it', then post it down below.
Comparing Target and Walmart is like comparing apples to handgrenades. Walmart is a bigger chain that focuses on mass production and quantity over customer loyalty and quality.
Besides that, like Target is experiencing rate now, there are phases of consumerism. Minecraft may be at a slight plateau from your perspective, but that's just your perspective. The licensing is literally everywhere, from target to Walmart to south park. It's irrational to call it a dead game so quickly.

1- security updates are just as important. Mojang doesn't care for modders because they don't officially support modding. you don't seem to understand that minecraft is not built around modding, it's the opposite.
Eh, I think you're looking at the glass half empty. Minecraft isn't dying, it's just stopped growing as quickly. "Dying" would imply less people are playing, and harly anyone would be buying it, yet here we are, still with hundreds of thousands of people playing daily, with a whole array of merchandise which is still selling, with YouTubers which are still broadcasting. Sure, the YouTubers have stopped gaining subscribers, but they've not started to lose them yet. We have a thriving community here, still with tonnes of active posters. We still have modders, mappers and resource pack makers who are all trying to make the most out of the game. We have servers like the Hive and Hypixel which connect thousands every day. "Dying" would imply the game is on it's last legs, struggling to survive. It's more a middle-aged person rather than an old-aged pensioner lying on their death bed; it's not growing fast any more, but it's still got years to come.
Yeah. I still play minecraft almost every day. I love the Hive server!

Well of course everything has a lofe span thats why companies come out with new updates for example apple has new phones/devicees come out each year and minecraft is coming out with the 1.9 update story mode new mob etc. So do I think minecrafy is dying? No posibilitys endless yet still fun.
The main problem is Mojang has spread themselves too thin, and don't seem to realize it. However, even though the dev team is lackluster at best, they're still putting out occasional updates.
Of course it is. I would turn this around and ask what is your history with this kind of gaming? I have seen almost this exact post in 5 or 6 message boards for various games I have played over the years.
Minecraft is an exceptional game though. Low cost, free enhancements, huge server community and the most open sandbox ever are huge factors. I can't imagine complaining about 1.8 taking 11 months when it was FREE. Most game developers call it an expansion pack or a 2.0 game and make you pay again. How much have you spent on Minecraft, and for how many hours of enjoyment? I'll trade you my bill for my kids to play Disney Infinity.
There's always been the next big game to replace the one you have been playing for the last couple years. That hasn't happened yet here. With only incremental enhancements people have to be getting bored. It was a great run, though. More longevity here than any other game I have played so far.
1- security updates are just as important. Mojang doesn't care for modders because they don't officially support modding. you don't seem to understand that minecraft is not built around modding, it's the opposite.
Mojang does supports modders. Minecraft is still alive mostly because of mods.
I doubt it's dying due to the fact that over 10,000 people went to minecon. Yes, single player is boring without mods but the next update will most likely help fix it for a while as most updates do. Multiplayer does have lots of hackers/cheaters or annoying kids but if you find the right server (hard with minigames but easier with creative servers) it can be a ton of fun.
Minecraft will never die. we have thousands upon thousands of mods. millions of servers new ones everyday. we have survival, creative. plus we have millions of players on a day.
ugh, another "iz mincrift dyin" thread. I'm sick of seeing the same thread everyday, but people are not bored of creating another.
1- security updates are just as important. Mojang doesn't care for modders because they don't officially support modding. you don't seem to understand that minecraft is not built around modding, it's the opposite.
2- I'll just quote myself:
Yeah, but did we need almost 5 updates in a row for security? Why not just all in one? And the quality of the snapshot wasn't the problem I was addressing. Most YouTubers, the people who made the game famous, have just been going of rumors for videos because they're running out of ideas for the game. And they finally are releasing an update within the next few weeks. It's been long enough since anything more than a rumor has surfaced to start causing a loss of interest.
Also, Mojang is an official company with God knows how many people working on the dev team. There are many mods that add more to Minecraft that Minecraft does. Take Divine RPG. A squad of people who liked the idea of a game and made a massive mod that added almost 3 times the items into the game. I know the group fell apart after while, but I found the mod more fun and could play much more longer without knowing how to do everything. There is no challenge in Minecraft. It was a game based on creativity, but Mojang had run out of that.
It's slowly decaying but why do you measure the popularity by serveres?! Lots of servers are just a way to get donation. And yeah it's hard to get new players because thre are too many of different serveres. I just don't see the point in creating new, to be honest.
Minecraft isn't dying. The only thing you proved is that people don't want to watch it. Cyber attacks don't matter when it is just a couple 1,000 accounts stolen which can be easily saved. It matters more when it's about store because money would have been stolen.
Ok people! MINECRAFT ISN'T DYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the time it took me to type this comment, thousands of people got minecraft!
Technically, everything is dying. If I wanted to be literal, everything and everyone is dying. Newborns are dying. Everything in this world has a lifespan, and mine craft is on the latter end.
Minecraft is not dying. The Updates? Well, updates are getting bigger and bigger. And the bigger the update, the longer it takes to release it. I will agree that if Mojang makes 1.10 (or 2.0 depending on there knowledge of math) Minecraft might start to die, but it is not there yet.

I think kinda. Everything have ages
E.g Compared to 3 years ago, getting players for server is way way harder than it used to be.

I agree. I did just buy Java Minecraft in March though... I've had Xbox 360 edition for 3 years now.

Yeah. I still play minecraft almost every day. I love the Hive server!

I just wish when people claim that "Minecraft is dying" they would provide valid proof to backup those claims.
Mere speculation is all I ever see to justify that "Minecraft is dying".
