I don't know, there could be a way to use the stat.useItem.minecraft.diamond_sword objective somehow. Try posting it in the "Redstone Discussion and Mechanisms" section.
You can't give Swords potion effects, only Enchantments.
Well its just like Endergirl00 said. This applies to armor as well. The only way I see potion effects on anything enchanted is through redstone contraptions, commands, and mods.
Okay guys.... and... How about "Give Potion Effect to Armor???" pls... help me....
To avoid you of thinking anymore "Give Potion Effect to ____" I'll tell you what Potion Effects are.
Potion effects are ONLY achievable through mixing recipes in a brewing stand, using the /effect command, or using a command block. Other than that, you can't add potion effects to anything other than bottles, command blocks, chat, players, and mobs. You can't place it on weapons, armour, or blocks for that matter.

Filters are downloadable from here!

You can add potion effect to armor and items like they are "side effects" (like when you wear armor, and it givs you slowness, and when you take off armor the slowness is gone)
Guys, How to add Potion Effect, Like "When Hit you will Invisible" to Sword??? Please...... Help me....
Sorry man the known enchantments in-game possible for the sword are the following:
Sharpness
Knockback
Fire Aspect
Bane of Arthropods
Smite
Looting
Unbreaking

Not sure though if you can give sword tool enchantments though.
Of course there may be a way with redstone contraptions or world editors? And then there are always mods.
Hope this helps.
Hopefully I'll live a good life.

You might be thinking of a mod.

This is possible with command blocks, but that's the only way, and it takes a fair few commands to get it working.

i will try it...
You can add potion effect to armor and items like they are "side effects" (like when you wear armor, and it givs you slowness, and when you take off armor the slowness is gone)
Just in your armor class add at the bottom:
@Override
public void onArmorTick(World world, EntityPlayer player, ItemStack armor)
{
if(!world.isRemote)
player.addPotionEffect(new PotionEffect(Potion.moveSlowdown.id, 2, 1, true));
if(!world.isRemote)
player.addPotionEffect(new PotionEffect(Potion.resistance.id, 2, 1, true));
}
}
That was an code for Slowness and Resistance on armor
and for sword is the same, just instead of onArmorTick is onItemTick
Sarcasm doesn´t mean what you think it means, It means what you don´t think it means, so it means what you don´t think it means, simple!
It's possible to do that. It just takes command blocks and redstone.
I Know that, But I don't Know The Command...
