I was always pondering why people like a certain form over the other. What is your opinion on playing one over the other? What makes it better and more addicting!

I find it strange that some people can be hard set to only play one form of the game, as both vanilla and modded minecraft have much to offer. I generally play a blend of both, depending on what mood I am in. If I am in the mood to try something completely new, I will often boot up whatever modpack is trending on FTB or ATL and check it out, although if I am in the food to do something a bit basic (yet much more complex) I will often play vanilla. When playing either, I generally like to play hardcore.

I agree with you I cannot comprehend why some people hate mods so much. Not all mods are overpowered (Dartcraft being an example of an over powered mod).They add a ton of fun to the game. And now some people hate 1.8 because "it feels modded" some of these people confuse me.
Heh, if my machine didn't explode upon contact with modded files, I'd be playing modded. As is, I'm playing Dwarf Fortress for a change of pace.
I can understand that. My previous pc did not handle Minecraft too well 4 gigs of ram does not work well for gaming. My current pc is up to 16 ggs and handles it a lot better (although playing the larger modpacks with hundreds of mods does seem to irritate it)

For me I started on the Xbox it was fun but extremely limited. Moved to the pc tried mods and instantly loved it.Theres so many posabilities mods open up. For example you can use the Custom NPC mod to add npcs to the game besides those squidward look alikes (it has a lot of potential for abuse in SMP maps though), The Elemental Arrow mod which gives all kinda of amazing arrows to shoot from a bow or a dispenser (I always loved filling dispensers with lightning arrows and making thunder storms), Thaumcraft is another favorite it add lots of magic to the game it's first version is without a doubt my favorite of it's current versions (you could make a massive portal network and actually see through them if you got close enough), my all time favorite mod was the Zepplin mod for 1.2.5 which is long dead it let you break blocks from their grid and turn them into a fully functional vehicle. I had a mobile cloud fortress (made of wool) that I used that was full of dispensers loaded with lightning arrows from the Elemental Arrows mod
These all seem great. My opinion on playing with a modpack is that, because I have been playing minecraft since beta start, it's hard to continue in vanilla since I am knowledgeable in the vanilla area. Plus, mojang sucks at making updates. I mean seriously, bunnies? Really?

I personally find that using mods adds more dimension to the game, and makes it even more sand-boxy. You can really "play how you want", even if that means building a technological world, or a steampunk world, or whatever. Mods allow a player to customize the world to their specific tastes, because let's face it, there are just about as many preferred ways of doing things as there are people.
That's not to say that vanilla doesn't have plenty to offer, too. I'm sure I'll eventually get around to playing another vanilla adventure, but right now, I'm just having too much fun with tech mods. I wouldn't want minecraft to be either mod-free or only modded. I think it's important to have both.
As far as which is "better", well, that's pretty much the definition of subjective, so really the question is, "which is better to you?" There is no right or wrong answer. Which is better is whichever you personally enjoy more. For me, that's modded. For someone else, it's vanilla, and for yet others, it's both equally. All of those answers are valid.
I like a little bit of both, but I tend to stay more towards the side of vanilla. I do use some mods in my game, but most mods I use are for aesthetic reasons. I did try some mods that added more features in things, but I had mixed feelings. The only one I really liked was Mo Creatures just because all the different kinds of mobs.
Which is better? I can't say as that depends on the player(s). That's also another beautiful thing about Minecraft: you can choose Vanilla or Modded and it would be completely okay.

@Endercreeper, I swear we've met before...
Anyway, yeah, vanilla's great, but I like having lots of tech to mess with, so I tend to go for modded versions. However, I don't consider either "Better" just different.
Oh, and I seriously meant my computer explodes when I try to mod, I'm not even talking about the terrible FPS I get, this is a quote from the developer of the modpack I was using;
Quote from Nimbleguy »...How? That shouldn't... You, sir, have broken java.
You could use Archimedes to build yourself a thundercloudship.
Thanks I may have to try that. It looks a bit more complex though especially since
"Air Balloon
The balloon is the essential block to build air ships. 40% of the blocks on a ship should be a balloon in order to give the ship the ability to fly. This percentage is
adjustable in the config file.
Balloons will get the same colour as the wool it is crafted with."
If I can edit it down to 1% or so it should be fine otherwise It would be an odd looking cloud. Then again Zeppelin did have it's own problems with that too. If the ship was too large it would often suffer from lighting errors while active. I'm also curious exactly how closely it functions to Zeppelin. Guess I'll find out soon enough.

edit: I think you meant mood, not food.
