So I just killed the ender dragon today for the first time. It was fun. I then went to claim my prize. The egg. So I hit the egg to get it off the pedestal so I could retrieve it with a piston. When I hit it however, it vanished. Yes I know what you're thinking- "It just teleported you n00b." While this may be true, it did not teleport to any of the normal places, i.e. in a 15x15x7 radius- I know i dug it out- ALL of it. No. Somehow this egg managed to leave the radius where its supposed to teleport, but I would only find that out hours later while mapping my world and going for the adventuring time achievement. While exploring and mapping, I found myself coming to my original spawn, which happened to be a heavily flowered, yet tiny island in the middle of an ocean. So, for old time's sake (and to steal the 3 diamonds my friend left in a chest there months ago) I thought I would stop by and have a look. So I got out of my boat, climbed the hill and guess what I found? Somehow, this little ender egg managed to leave the end and teleport back to my original spawn. So here's my question. Has anyone had this experience? Also, can anyone give an explanation as to why this might have, or even could have happened? Thanks so much!
The egg just teleported into the portal and got transported to the Overworld; anything that falls into the portal will appear at the world spawn point (any XP orbs that fall into the portal will appear there too - so you can get all the XP the dragon drops if you know where world spawn is; in my case, I always build right next to it so I can just run out and get it).
When I get the egg I first cover the portal up with end stone, more so I don't accidentally fall in, then get the egg off and take a torch from the portal so I can have it fall onto the torch and drop as an item (this method doesn't require bringing anything extra to the End; you can also use the piston method without getting the egg off first if you cover the portal up).

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
