I've been playing MC for a little over a year now and have grown to Love the community in which surrounds it. I generally play Survival, living a simple life as an adventurer, farmer, lumberjack, miner, inventor, craftsman, carpenter, warrior, and even Entrepreneur in multi-player. There is always more to harvest, projects to build, horizons to discover, and oceans to sail.
More importantly, the ever expanding community to enjoy new worlds and old together. Helping one another to understand the many unique techniques for creating your very own inventions. I believe Minecraft has the potential, with its strong community base, to solve real world issues.
I'll give you a moment to laugh and snicker. When your done click this link to watch Jane Mcgonigals TED talk: Gaming can make a better world. I believe with Mojangs dedicated team whom diligently improves upon their work with free updates.
My vision is to see the community band together on servers designed to replicate current issues in our own world and offer incentives for solutions. Now I realize MineCraft is not quite the "real World", limited gravity laws, no physics, and more than a few others i dont care to mention. The point is problem solving virtually to solve reality.
Please comment, but not if you have not followed the link to the TED talk first. As this thread is based upon it. If you liked the fist TED with Jane Mcgonigal, try this as well.
No I have not watched the link. I have no intention [on] clicking a link in a forum. And games do not change the world. The will of the people change the world.
Then use Youtube, Jane Mcgonigal: Gaming can make a better world. Then you have the privlage of debating my friend. Do the research yourself and dont close doors before you walk through them.
What did you think of The TED talk? I want someone to make plugins or mods replicating real world issues and resources. I do not have the programming nor significant knowledge in these areas.

What about the will of the people to make games?
Mortal Kombat led to the creation of the ESRB and changed the way we view interactive entertainment. Scientists have used the way a virtual plague moved through World of Warcraft as a model for how infectious disease spreads. The demand for high visual quality in games has pulled computer technology ahead by leaps and bounds.
Anything can change the world. But how much it changes the world does depend on the will of the people behind it, like you said.
